Anybody have any good guidelines for a Tsunami?

First Post
Our heroes are on the beach with a bunch of tribesmen buddies clamming, when the tide goes _way_ out all of a sudden.
Somebody made their knowledge nature roll and know a Tidal Surge is occuring.
Our heroes have to make it safe ground, hopefully with a couple of kids under an arm ("I put the kid in my bag of holding" :))
Any suggestions for distance to high ground, speed of a tidal surge, etc?

I'm figuring 100+ feet to shore, +100' up hill to safer ground 2-8 rounds until the surge begins at a speed of ... 70?

Anybody got anything better?

After it hits, and you get caught, swim DC 25 to stay afloat with reflex saves to not be hit by anything for 2-12 encounters of D6-1 of D6-1's.

Suggestions?

it is hard to work out. You can create as big tsunamies as you want. Read something about Tsunamies and its waves at wikipedia.

Anyways the only way I can imaging a D&D character to die in a tsunami would be to drown or extremly many encounters. D&D Characters are much tougher than real life living people.
