Anyone considering using the 'Modern' rules in DnD?

Okay after having looked through the Modern SRD I must say that I loved the Occupations (ie Backgrounds) system

Liked the wealth system and thought the Allegances system was better than 'alignment'.

I will definately be using the Occupations/Background system in future DnD games

and am very much tempted to use the wealth system (but probably too lazy to try and convert the equipment list to wealth DCs)

ANything else you will use?

PS I thought the bugbear with shotgun entry was funny

I'm running a cross-genre campaign (colonial time, medieval time, prehistoric time, and near-future all coexisting) so this'll be unbelievably useful for me. I plan to use the wealth system and defense from what I've heard of the game so far, and I'll probably use a few more things.

I'm not sure that the wealth system would work that well in D&D. Modern games don't seem to be as "treasure" oriented as D&D so most of your wealth will come from income/investments/ corporate bugets, etc. so it is more easily abstracted.

For example, if a PC with a Wealth modifier of +15 found a +2 sword (DC25?) in a treasure hoard, well she hasn't spent any cash or credit on purchasing it. Her Wealth modifier wouldn't decrease when she gained the item.

This would make it difficult to track wealth per level. You could set suggested DCs for each level, but that wouldn't stop a PC from having multiple found-items of that DC or higher. Especially if you roll randomly for treasure.

In a modern setting, I think that even relic hunters will be converting their treasure into cash/credit/new contracts which will just increase the abstract Wealth bonus. It won't be as common that they will be going out and stealing equipment to use in later adventures.

Not that I've thought about it a lot, so there might be some great solutions. I really like the streamlined recordkeeping of the Wealth system, no need to keep track of every power tool or piece of electronics equipment once you attain a certain level of affluence.

Cheers

I might be using the classes with some new tallent chains, and a few 15-level Advanced Classes for magic/psi. I really like the classes on abilities idea.
