Anyone else moving away from D20?

I never really got into d20 at all.

I agree that 3e is the best incarnation of D&D, but it is still D&D with all the quirks that follows. Sure it is easy to make house rules, but most of the house rules (anything that has to do with classes and levels) aren't needed in most other games anyway. :p

Oh well. I'm having a grand old time with Dark Ages: Vampire and Exalted at the moment, and I'm hoping to get some Adventure! and Godlike started as soon as possible.

I hear those are awesome games.

I'll wait for the d20 conversion.

;)

Sigil you took the words right out of my mouth.

I tend to spend a lot of time on the overarching plots in my campaign and detail all the very important NPCs and challenges. Everything else gets the SWAG approach to DMing.

When you understand the core mechanics well enough it is easy to improvise. I no longer sweat it when PCs do something just completley arbitrary. I know I can pull something together quick enough to make it engaging or at the least, hold them at bay until I get some time to do it right.

I have to say though, you really did crystalize what I had been doing all a long very succinctly. Thank you.

To the original point, I recently moved so I have lost my group of 5 years but I will stick with 3E when I evetually get a new group together. Yes I think there are something that the system doesn't do all that well. I agree as advertised progression is a litttle quick for MY taste. So I scale back on the XP a little. Yes I agree there is a little bit of an "arms race" inherent in the rules. But I think no more blatant than other systems.

But I really feel the stability and the flexibility are the felines night time garments. I have tinkered extensivley from a flavor perspective and have yet to come across any real issues.

I will probably snap up spycraft (eventuallY) and D20 modern when they come out and should have enough for just about any meilleu.

Feh!

I ran 3e for well over a year and just got fed up with it. I'm set to run a couple of 1e campaigns, one on-line and one tabletop. I'll be running Hackmaster at my FLGS soon. I co-DM an Exalted campaign online and I've been invited to play in a Shadowrun game that I'm looking forward to. I've also ordered EGG's Lejendary Adventures to toy around with. I'm still stuck with a couple of d20 games but I'll drop those as soon as it's fair to the players.

Anyone else who wants to get back to OD&D or AD&D should check out Dragonsfoot.org, a site dedicated to 1e AD&D with resources for all versions of D&D and AD&D, Hackmaster, Lejendary Adventures and other rpg's. :D
