Anyone else overall disappointed by D&D books?

That brings up another good point. There were 3-part Dragon issues that focus on variant classes. I was especially fond the variant fighter rules. Why didn't that make into the Complete Warrior? What flaws did they spotted that made the R&D Group rejected the variant fighter rules and such, allowing Paizo to pick them up for their magazines?

I'm not sure whether rules variants would fit into the Complete Books. It would have been right in Unearthed Arcana, though.

It seems to me that D&D is now all about a very bland, vanilla, politically correct fantasy game, with much flavor (I speak of art here) intended toward teenagers (yes: I am an old gamer).

Hey, I'm an old gamer too, and I have to disagree. SOme of the ebst D&D books I've ever seen have come out under 3e. Unearthed Arcana, for example, is one of the best D&D books I've ever read, with Manual of the Planes a close second. Tons of possibilities, and certainly not bland, not by a long shot.

Perhaps, but I had wish they use that template to make an acceptable Samurai character class in Complete Warrior.

They could at least use the OA Samurai - either stripped of Rokugani flavour or even redone a little - and not make a "I'm a Mirumoto Niten Disciple but don't tell anyone" - like Samurai
