Anyone excited for DCC RPG?

I'm amazed at how many people find d14, d7, etc to be deal breakers. Then again, I love weird dice and I already own a d3, d5, d7, d14, d16, d24, and d30. They weren't hard to get, nor were they expensive. I just checked Amazon, and a set of d3+d5+d14+d16+d24 is less than ten bucks.

I will probably buy the game but may not play it; I have a long-running AD&D campaign and no desire to change.

The dice actually made me happy, I liked the fancy and fun dice.

I also like the old school feel, but if you know about Basic Fantasy Roleplay, that seems more like a way to go (no joke, its a totally free rpg that does the same kinda thing)

now the reason I am interested in getting it is not to ONLY play that, but more to get comfortable enough to be able to convert DDC RPG modules into pathfinder/3.x adventures

so far, the free-rpg day adventure starter was an easy conversion.

Aside from the standard dice, I have a d24 for random hour of the day, a d12 with the months, a d12 with hit locations, a d30, a d8 with compass points, a d14, and a few offbeat versions of d6s and d4s. Most see some use almost every game.

I had a quick look at the RPG, and I really liked the ideas behind their 0th level character generation. The idea of picking your character based on who survives the first dungeon appeals to me greatly.

Sadly, my group is not a fan of random character generation in any way, so I doubt the game would take hold. Still, I'd be open to playing in a game someday.

However what would be wonderful would be for someone to take an OGL version of the original basic and then bring it up to today's standards using input from fans. Sort of like what New Haven is doing with 2e, but more diverse not holding onto any sacred cows for the most part.
Given how many OSR/retro-clone games are out there, I'd be amazed if you couldn't find one exactly to your tastes.

They don't appear to be available on Amazon UK. Although I have managed to find one or two online suppliers that have the individual dice for sale, I haven't found a set together (obviously, buying them singly is more expensive). Also, due to a quirk in UK law, dice are categorised as 'games' and so subject to 20% VAT (where books, including RPG books, are not).

Frankly I´m a little annoyed by the "it´s so cheap it´s almost no deal" argument. This may be true to US citizens. Here in Europe the cheapest I could find is the Dice Shop in UK. Getting the d3+d5+d14+d16+d24 set there and shipping them to my country would cost me more than 20 Euro (28 US dollar).

frankly, it's also a bit annoying when people are knocking the game because they are not willing to purchase some extra dice.

The whole "funny dice" argument is ridiculous coming from this segment of the games market (which is grounded in funny dice).

If your country's taxes are through the roof, that should not be a reflection on the game or company, I would hope.

I also find it funny that the majority of people here will dish out $40 each month for a hardcover and never use 90% of it, or spend hundreds if not thousands on minis and maps and terrain, or get into a subscription where the company sends you every product they make every month... and these same people complain about $10-30 worth of dice

As for the OP and game itself- I was really excited to see this, but once the BETA showed up, I was disappointed. They should have spent more time tidying up the rules, and less time and space on art. I'll wait for the final product and some reviews.

I love dice. So it's a plus for me. Also I think a simple point buy could be made for the system. If it hasn't been done already.

Just to be clear, I wasn´t bashing the game. In fact I like it and am planning to purchase when it comes out. I was complaining about the argument that I read on all threads about the dice topic, stating that the dice are no issue since they are so cheap. As said, this may be true in the US, but it ignores the rest of the world. RPG book prices are ok here, usually a little more expensive than in the US, but still comparable. The dice however are about 2.7 times as expensive as in the country they originate from.

On a further note, I couldn´t spend 40$ a month on books that I won´t use and to me the assumption that the majority of gamers here can sounds a little shaky.
