Anyone got any ideas?

Pigs are nasty (see films Hanibal or Snatch for details). Perhaps whilst they are working for the pirate they discover he is feeding his victims to the foul "we'll eat anything" beasties. Maybe they notice a missing nobel's ring, shining in the sh*te whilst chatting with the good farmer next to the pen. And of course, there always the were-boar option.

If you want to be a bit mean and evil......

The pirate will as if they could watch the pigs for 2 or 3 days, he needs to make a fast bisness trip. While the players watch the pigs (nothing happens and the 2 days are very dull) he comes back, gives the information and each player 1 gp for the trouble.

What they do not know and find out in the next town that a pirate robbed a ship, killed the crew and raped the Majors daughter who was on board. A huge price is offerd for any information leading to the arrest of the pirate and any person who helped him.... Then drop some hints how he looked like......

Laiyna

I liked yours too Joshua. I went to bed thinking I knew more or less how I was going to do it and then got up and read Laiyna's and had to rethink if I didn't want to to it different. I think I am going to end up combining several ideas from here.

I had the idea of asking the PCs to capture a Dire Boar for the good Captain, one which the local goblins held to be sacred. (If you crossbreed a dire boar with a domestic pig, what would you get? Big Hams!) Then when the PCs have done this and all the goblins go on the rampage (its the PCs fault) the Captain can step in, calm the goblins or destroy them, and set himself up as local law enforcement (which will serve the interests of his cleric). End result is the PCs have made a very evil man locally popular. The only problem with the scenario is the question of how well can a group of 2nd level PCs subdue a CR 4 dire boar.

And how would you successfully pen a dire boar?

"Liberate" the Dunfilgon Sow

Pirate Sickle likes pigs. New passion, some would say. The problem is, he keeps being shown up by Farmer Bremm, who lives a ways away in the town of Dunfilgon.

First, Pirate Sickle wants people to think he's legit. Second, Dunfilgon is considerably in-land and his pirate crew are just not up for work that far from a boat. Third, he wants that sow.

Maybe he tells the party it was stolen from him. Maybe he tells them it is his wife, polymorphed into a pig and he wants her back. Maybe he tells them that Farmer Bremm is a demon.

Whatever.

The party is to deliver to him the Dulfilgon Sow. They can buy it. They can steal it.

Who knows, maybe Farmer Bremm isn't the nicest guy either. Maybe he's secretly an evil druid and uses his contacts with the goblins of the woods to wreak terror on Dunfilgon. Since he lives within the walls, he's great and the other farmers near by get their livestock stolen by the goblins on a regular basis (the pirate, mind you, lives a ways away - few days at least). Hell, maybe Farmer Bremm IS A DEMON.

This is D&D, stranger things have happened.
