This page has calculations on it, but the wording makes it hard to understand....

Now is that the Ability Modifer, or the ability Score that they are subtracting 11/10 from?

As said in the text, it is the ability score. The same substraction is used to determine the ability score adjustments for races.

Reach, plus the ability to use huge weapons (2d8 greatsword, anyone?). But -1 to AC and attacks, and will have a hard time finding gear to use. Hmm. I don't think it's quite worth a +1 level adjustment. Maybe give him +2 Strength and +2 Constitution, to reflect his large size, and I think it's fair at +1 level adjustment.

That's up to the DM. All the player's handbook says is that armor for larger creatures costs double.

You forgot the +4 the grapple checks and the extra bonuses to disarm checks granted by using larger weapons. The large reach can be made even larger by using reach weapons. Plus the ability to make AoOs on smaller creatures closing for melee. And the ability to avoid AoOs from other Large creatures. A Large half-orc can get on top of a spellcaster and force him to cast defensively or take an AoO, since a 5' step won't escape the half-orc's reach. You can shut down archers in a similar manner.

Large creatures also get a -4 penalty on Hide checks.

IMO it's a pretty impressive bonus, and probably worth a +1 ECL on its own.

1/2 orc

I'd go with ecl +1 then. Reach is pretty darn good so I think this will help balance that out.

Gotta go with Crothian on this one ECL1 - remember now that he is large feats like large & in Charge coupled with combat reflexes, or cleave is gona get mean. (I'm assuming he's some fighter type)

Makes sense for ECL 1 at first glance, but when you consider how weak half-orcs are naturally(+2 Strength and Darkvision are hardly worth -2 to INT and CHA, and orc blood is mainly a disadvantage anyway.), compared to an elf or a human, I'd let it slide ECL-less.

especially if he gets the Gr cleave, ImprWWA chain and a reach weapon. Dang- anything within 15' would be dead in a round.

Question:
If you have a large fighter with TWF, Gr Cleave, impr WWA ( i know that;'s a lot of feats- just take a level of ranger for the TWF;) )Then can you WWA the 5' area with the sword in your off hand while WWA the 10' area with your reach and off hand weapon and 15' area with a polearm?

Plus, can you attack the space 10' away from you with a polearm (since you haev reach and a reach weapon?)

Well, that only takes an ECL +0 to +1 race, 21 levels, 9 feats, 1 epic feat, base Int 15+, and base Dex 23+.

Dragon magazine places an ogre at ECL 8, your large half orc while not as potent as an ogre is still pretty tough, I would say he is a little weaker than a half dragon which is ECl 5, and would place him at ECL4.
8!?!? That's insane. Weren't they 5 in the DMG? If the fighter in your 8th level party is swapped out for a standard ogre, your 8th level party just took a big hit in power.

Oh, well then just ECL+1. Reach is a deadly ability to have at any level.

I'll back up ECL+1 as well. In fact, i'd lean towards +2, then see how it works out, and give him an extra level and reduce the ECL if it is too weak.
