Anyone here from Edmonton, Alberta?

Edmonton, try to play at least once a week, though not really looking for more people, 4 seems to be about all I can handle, though maybe.

On a somewhat related note, I can't believe that people are saying Calgary is greener than Edmonton, do people not know the difference between green and yellow? Edmonton is one of the greenest cities in the world, speaking trees per capita, plus the river valley rocks. Edmonton's roads system makes sense, though public trans does suck, but the roads make sense dammit!!!!! and the whole city doesn't filter onto one freeway everyday, deerfoot is a nightmare, Calgary is way too dependant on it.

I must admit I miss adventure's Supply, and our FLGS do suck. Warp 1 or 2 are the way to go, I haven't been to warp 3 yet. They are expensive, but every other place doesn'y carry stock, you can order through them for like 15% off cover, but if you want to browse, warp's the way to go.

Lastly I'd like to comment on the U of A Geology and D&D, I thought I was the only one!!!! Class of 2002 baby!!!!

I'll second that sentiment. I've lived in both cities and I prefer Calgary. It's greener, the transit system makes sense and the FLGS rocks. Move here. I need somebody else to run a game so I can play. I haven't been a PC in years!

Calgary greener? I'd have to disagree with you on that.

But on the other hand I can't even begin a rebuttal on the transit situation between the two cities. Calgary wins hands down on that one.

We're stuck with Warp 1 and 2, and both are horribly lacking, and wildly overpriced. Though we do have a good store in St. Albert I've heard. One of my players went in looking for Reaper miniatures and was floored by the selection.

I browse Warp 2 once and a while and find their selection to be decent. I admit that I am more of a casual browser than serious player, but I seem to find things here and there. Of course I had no experience with any other store so take my comments for what they are worth.

But you are absolutely right about the pricing. I've yet to see something at list price. Everything seems to be at least 10% more in price.

I'm from Edmonton, and in a pretty regular weekly game. Couldn't promise you a spot until all involved had met you, but we're mostly all Darkest of the Hillside Thickets fans too, so you might fit in.

Although, your sanity must be questioned for moving FROM Vancouver TO Edmonton, which is contrary to the natural order as I understand it. Cats and Dogs, living together, mass hysteria...

Should you decide to go through with the move, do let me know. I can be contacted @hotmail.com, under my user name above.

At risk of turning this into an absolutely OT Us vs Them thing, these statements are not all true. You'll note that Edmonton has migrated to the quadrant street system that Calgary uses. It just happens that everything west of Baseline Road (and north of another road that I cannot name at the moment) has been designated NW. Your streets are the same as ours now. BWAHAHAHA!

And we have 2 "freeways". Crowchild counts too. I'll agree that traffic gets super-crazy here compared to Edmonton though.

So yeah. I've lived in both and prefer Calgary. Mid-winter Chinooks make it all good. :)

Your right, we do have the NW thing, but there is no development in the SE, right now its like 3 auto repair places, and a couple of mills, 99.99% of the city is NW. I hate to keep going but what I was refering to with the roads are the number of named streets in Calgary vs Edmonton, and the location of the quadrant division. Calgary's division is downtown, edmonton's is out in the boonies(?), I mean meridian street is a dirt road..... and the grid layout of the roads is easy for visitors to locate addresses, though unfortunately we are getting more named roads.

The main thing for me and Edmonton though are the number of major roads that you can't even see the city from, like the whitemud, or groat road, or river (valley) road. Unfortunately they are all named, but you can't even tell your in a city when you on them. When your on deerfoot, all you see are office buildings in hill after hill of houses. In my opinion Edmonton is a much prettier city, but to each his own.

One thing I'll definately give to Calgary though is the Professional Job Market. If your looking for White collar work, Calgary has much more opportunity, you bastards!:D

Also an Edmontonian- though I was born in Red Deer.

Warp I is *not* a good place to browse; they've recently started putting all their gaming materials in shrink wrap.

And their prices aren't that great- but if you have a membership you don't have to pay GST and you get a $1 store credit for every $25 you buy (redeemable on specific days). So it's not too bad.

Nitpicking but, you can ask to look at any book, and they'll open it for you to browse. The points can be used anytime, but can only be used for a certain percentage of your purchase, except on certain days.
