Anyone know about Riverworld?

I just read on Ain't It Cool News about this new series coming out. Unfortunately, it's on Sci-Fi but it's produced by Alex Proyas (Dark City, The Crow) and he, to me, is the MAN. The premise looks interesting.

Anyone know anything about it? I know it's based off a novel series and a RPG and but I'd like to know more...

Oh yeah! I read some of those books! It's a cool premise actually. A group of mysterious folks creates a world that's essentially one ginormous (not in your dictionary...yet) river. Then they resurrect everyone who ever lived to populate it. 80% of the population of each section comes from the same time and geographic location, while the remaining 20% is random people. So you've got neanderthals with vikings, mongols with spartans, hippies with victorian english people, etc. You've even got famous people like Samuel Clemens (Mark Twain) becoming major characters. Oh yeah, and if you die, they re-resurrect you, only in a different part of the river (at least until "they" figure out that one character's committing suicide repeatedly to get closer to "their" mysterious base of operations).

Anyways, there's exploring to be done, resources to be hoarded, nations to be formed, all with the question, "who/what the hell did all this?" running through the background.

In my opinion: fantastic premise, mediocre writing. Also, I read these books 7-8 years ago, so my memory's fuzzy.

Cool. Would you recommend the books?

Eh. They're like a lot of PJF's books. The first one is great (since it's a neat idea, etc.) but after that they go downhill pretty fast.

Read the first one if you're interested.
