Anyone know what these are?

I was wandering around the suburbs today and went into a book store and he had 5 of these books/mini boxed sets. They were $5 each ($3.50 USD) and he gave them to me for $20 (15 approx USD)for all 5 sets.

They have the AD&D label on them and are in great condition. Apologies for the meh photo. I have Dragons of Lankmar, Challenge of Druids Grove, Revenge of the Red Dragon, The Ambersword of Worlds End, and Warlords an Oriental Adventure. I assume they are not worth much? At first I thought the owner of the store was pulling out old 80's video games.

Also from the 80's. NES, Super Mario 3, 50' LED TV. Completely unrelated but I am a bad bad person.

I've got them all (there were 8 different sets of two books). You're missing 'Battle for the Ancient Robot', 'Castle Arcania' and 'Dragonwand of Krynn'.

Those were pretty fun, and at some point during the 80s I made my dad play them with me. I didn't actually know D&D existed as a thing at the time, but those books were cool :)

Thanks Shemeska. Good to see you around assuming you are the same Shemeska from the WoTC boards from a long time ago, font of all Planescape knowledge. Are the books worth anything or did I get ripped off at $3 a piece?

Echohawk ought to be able to tell you if they are worth anything.

I've never seen these books before.

(And BTW, the 1st TV I bought for myself had a built-in NES. I only sold it a year or so ago :) )

They aren't particularly rare or valuable, but they look like they are in decent shape, so I certainly don't think you got ripped off at $3 each. (I paid a lot more for a couple of mine.) There are actually ten books in the One-on-One series, not eight as Shemeska indicated, but only eight of the ten are AD&D books; the other two (The Fantastic Four vs. Doctor Doom in The Doomsday Device and Daredevil and Kingpin in The King Takes a Dare) are based on Marvel characters, which TSR held the game product licence for at the time. There's a full list of the titles in the series here.

Some are worth very little, some of them are worth more, depending on what you consider a lot and depending on the condition. There's one or two at least that you might be able to get at anywhere from $25 to $50 or more.

I don't believe any of them are displayed in that photo though.

They are gamebooks which you have to have another play with you, and you basically play against each other. I was quite bored with them when I played through them, but everyone is different in their preferences.

One and the same. I rarely post on WotC's forums anymore, but I'm still here on Enworld, Paizo's forums, and a few other places.

I stand corrected about it being 10 books, not 8, but at $3 a piece, you paid much less than I did to collect the set I have on Ebay. Except for several I still had from when I was a kid, I think I dropped anywhere from $10-$25 (per set of 2 books) for mine.

I remember them, but did not buy them. The memory is old and dim, but believe Shemeska's comments are spot on.
