Just so I can join the Charlotte thread...

Lived in Charlotte for 10 years (1990-2000) back down there on business a couple of times a year - been to SE Brewery many times - looking forward to sampling the new dish ;)!

Better than even chance I will be relocating back down there within the next 12 months (just so I can be close to Nakia :p). The spousal unit and I are going down June 2-5 for a preliminary house-hunting trip in our old haunts of N. Charlotte (Highland Creek, Huntersville, etc).

If you are within an hour of Charlotte and like things Irish...you must visit Ri-Ra's Irish Pub in midtown Charlotte. Best Guinness I have had this side of the Old Country.

Come to Charlotte...the new gaming mecca of the SE :D!

Cool - Charlotte relocation means more appearances at NC Gamedays! :)

Correct, and about two hours away from Rock Hill, SC, which is on a doorstep to Charlotte. Unfortunately, (well, she partied over it) my Sis-in-Law just finished University up there, and just moved from Rock Hill this very week, so I have less resources and incentive to visit the area.

Cool! My cousins' ex-nanny* used to bartend there. Annie's fantastic, one of the most cheerfully sarcastic and cynical people I've met, which makes for a great childcare provider AND for a great bartender. Sadly, the only time my wife and I ever made it to Ri-Ra's, it was slammed with customers, and so we didn't get a chance to enjoy any ambience, but rather drank our micros while shouting out conversation over the din. I'll try to make it back there sometime and try their Guinness: I normally hate Guinness, but maybe theirs is better.

Well, the client didn't accept me. Said that it was crucial I had more Rational Rose experience. To be clear, this is like hiring a chef to cook meals, and indicating that people who use only a specific type of oven are wanted. So, don't freakin' advertise that you want a chef and say that use of a certain skill is important, when what you really mean is that certain use of a skill is crucial, and if you're a chef, that's good, too.

No, I'm not bitter. These people just frustrate the hell out of me sometimes. Back to the ol' drawing board.

Bummer...

Well, there is a lot of opportunities down there...so maybe something else will come up. You're in tech support for Capital One right now? Lot's of op-centers down there. Also, what exactly do you do? I have some very good contacts with TIAA-CREF at their regional HQ in N. Charlotte and will be down there for a meeting in 2 weeks. I can pass your resume on through channels to their IT people and can at least get it into the right hands.

Old One, my title is Data Architect. I design data warehouses, basically. If you think that's something that they might need, I'll be happy to pass my resume on to you, but I've stopped believing that I can just find a new job overnight. Mine is not an easy position to fill quickly.

dk -

They have a huge operation there that is, to the best of my knowledge, very "data-heavy". TIAA-CREF sells and services retirement plans, insurance programs and mutual fund products to tens of thousands of colleges, universities, secondary schools and non-profit hospitals around the country. They deal with millions of individual accounts and a continually changing array of product lines.

I know they are in the process of turning their Charlotte campus into the "brains" of the operation that will eventually house 10,000+ employees. I figure they store lots o' data there, because the place is harder to get onto than some military installations I visit!

Shoot me your resume at pdyer "at" pdfinancial "dot" com sometime in the next week and I will hand carry it down for my meeting on the 25th.
