Anyone playing Babylon 5?

I have been eyeing the B5 RPG for quite a while now. B5 is my favorite Sci-fi IP by far and wanted to know just how good it is. I have read the reviews on it but just wanted to know if people find the game playable or not?

I am!

There was a recent discussion on B5 in the D20 forum on this site.

There is always good conversation going on at the Mongoose site as well.

The game is very playable and a lot of fun. The starship combat is a bit iffy, but they have revised rules coming out for it soon. The rest of it though is right on the money.

If you have any other questions about it, I'll try to fill you in.

It is a real good product line.

I'm running it as an occasional game (basically when myself and the other two guys can get together), and its a great adaptation for the series/universe. As said the starship combat system is a bit iffy but thats easily worked around.

Theres some great material out for it and I recommend it big time.

Cool, Thanks for responding.

So is B5 straight d20 or is it a OGL version? I don't remember know which it is. Yeah i did check out the Mongoose site and it is good to see that they plan to release new novels too! I have been doing this thing for the last three months where I walk by the B5 section and think to myself (in best Homer Simpson voice) "but I want it" look @ the price and put it back down. This is by far the most self control that I have ever shown when I *really* wanted an RPG. It must end..........:D

I think that B5 is D20 with some heavy mods... can't remember if all the Skills and Feats and character advancement is in the book (I have not looked at my rules for a while now, sooo many other game books to read)

The big chance is that Hit Points don't go up very fast (I think the best get 2 or 3 points every level AND no CON modifier). Your Ref save gives you a bonus to your Defense also, and Armor I think is a DR.

They used a lot of the same rules for Starship Troopers (that I just picked up), except that one is OGL

NOTE that you can pick up the Pocket B5... it is all B&W, not many pictures BUT it has all the rules and the plot stuff in the back just like the big colored version of the book

It's a modified "Sci-Fi-D&D" (Mongoose apparently didn't dare straying too far from the basic class concept of D&D back then) with Grim-n-Gritty Combat (which is DEADLY, so don't get into a shootout or any lethal combat at all).

Don't think that violence is an answer if you aren't willing to get seriously hurt or even killed.

I'm running a game currently and really enjoy it. As everyone else has said combat is WAY deadly, avoid if possible. The season guides are top notch, some of the other books slightly lower notched. I've got a review of the line over at www.revolutionSF.com if'n you are interested.
