Anyone playing Swords & Wizardry?

I've run a game or two of Labyrinth Lord, and I have both the Original Edition Characters (a player handbook for people playing a form of OD&D using Labyrinth Lord rules). I leafed through Swords and Wizardry and then decided that I'm probably better off playing Labyrinth Lord first, and then using the Original Edition Characters instead of Swords and Wizardry – if at all! – considering that my players are very conservative and unwilling to experiment.

Yesterday I ran my Labyrinth Lord game again. It's about 75% LL, with bits from all over (including S&W) and went very well. Best session I've had in ages, still loving the old school rules!

I love the way S&W encourages you to customize it rather than run it as is.

Agreed. I ran a marathon game not long ago for my old gaming buddies from when I was a young teen. I used S&W plus some bits from GH, EW, BM, and some critters from the 1E MM. We originally played the LBBs plus bits from AD&D as it arrived on the shelves and S&W was a complete blast from the past. Most fun I've had gaming, well..since I was a teen.:p

I did a small review of S&W over at DF and the Necro forums.

Even though they complain combat takes up too much of our infrequent sessions (and combat encounters in my game are pretty sparse) my 4E group unfortunately will not budge on giving S&W a try- they like their character "crunch". Nor will they concede to giving Basic Fantasy RPG a go. I think BFRPG is kind of my ultimate classic version of D&D- Moldvay/Cook/Marsh (my fave version) with some of the better 3E-isms, a little more open for class/race, and with the expansion supplements can bring in some some more 3E and 1E elements though greatly simplified.
