Anyone remember Alternity ?

I have several of the Alternity books and a bunch of Dark Matter stuff. I loved the system and setting, but could never get an actual group together.

However now that d20 modern / spycraft / CoC are out I might port DM stuff over and get a game off the ground.

I also loved Alternity Gamma World :)

I not only remember it, I own the Player's handbook, the Gamemaster Guide, the Star Drive setting, the Dark Matter setting, and the Arms and Equipment Guide. Wouldn't trade 'em for gold, because it's a fast, straightforward game that allows for a quick break from D&D.

If only there were a buyer who had the cash to license or buy it from WotC and re-introduce it, I think it might sell well. 18 months was not enough time to let a game system grow, but in truth, WOtC had more vested interest in sticking with one game system than selling a second one. I personally do not beleive that it was just sales that killed Alternity.

I remember it well

I don't think it was just sales either. Everyone who played the game seems to have enjoyed it, espically the D*M setting. I seem to recall reading somewhere that alternity was always intended to be a stand-alone, contained project. Sort of a precurser to the D20 system. anyone able to confirm this ?

I only really played one game with some friends but we all had a really good time. Sadly some people in the group had a falling out and we never seemed to be able to get together again. Quite a few of us bought some of the products.

After that game, it wasn't till 3E that we reformed our play group.

Great game, I think it still have an edge over d20 in several aspects, such as the character generation system and the different degree of sucess. We are playing RtToEE right now, but we plan to play Star Drive next. I really look forward to this.

As far as I know, Alternity was dumped to not offer competition with d20. I sure that this was a loss to the game community but I it does make sense businesswise to WotC.

I have the game too, as well as the Star Drive Setting. I wanted Dark Matter but missed the opportunity. We only played a times but I thought it was a marvelous game system.

It would be nice if Wotc would sell or get rid of the license since I don't see them producing the game any more.

By the way, does anyone have d20 conversions of any of the Alternity stuff. Like the PC races, Externals, Medurr, and the various other aliens from Star Drive and Dark Matter?
