Anyone tried the raptorans and dragonwrought kobolds?

How did they play?

It seems dragonwrought kobolds got shafted by investing 3 feats into eventually gaining flight (like the poor buggers needed any more shafting). Any reason why Improved Dragon Wings shouldn't be folded into Dragon Wings?

How do they get shafted? For one feat they get +3 to all mental stats for no penalty. They're cheesier than a Wisconsin snack spread for crying out loud.

Eh? What are you talking about?

"Dragonwrought" gives a kobold the dragon type (in addition to previous subtypes), immunity to sleep and paralysis, darkvision 60 and low-light vision, and a bonus to a skill related to their dragon ancestry. Must be taken at 1st level.

"Dragon Wings" gives a kobold a glide ability and +10 bonus to Jump checks. Can be taken at 3rd if you are a Dragonwrought kobold.

"Improved Dragon Wings" gives a kobold a short flight at 6th level and full-fledged flight at 12 HD.

All this occupies all kobold feats until 9th level.

Raptorans get the glide and +10 to Jump at 1st level, the short flight at 5HD and the full flight at 10HD as racial traits.

Another benefit of Dragonwrought is that you don't lose points from physical abilities due to age. This means that some people like to make Dragonwrought kobolds and start them at Venerable age, gaining +3 to the mental abilities for free. This is techincally legal by the RAW, but that wouldn't stop me from smacking someone who tried it.

Back on topic, you're right that it is a very feat-hungry path to take. For flying kobolds I'd rather take six levels of Dragonfire Adept.
