Anyone using etools 3.5e - please help

Aopy

First Post
hello there,

I have already brought this up on the Code Monkey boards but I beleive the traffic here is a lot greater and there are some great minds here that may be able to help me.

here goes:
I have etools 1.5 installed and I download the 3.5 rules set. I run the download and put it in the proper folder. I even check the folder and it indicates that there are 2 separate databases there. One is Database_30e and the other is Database_35e. I run etools and it does not give me the option of switching between the 2 modes (3.0 or 3.5). What have I done wrong???

Thanx

Found this in another thread, Aopy. Hope it helps. Made mine work like a charm.

Some people are having trouble switching to 3.5 mode after installing the 1.5 patch. They go to File -> Preferences and change the mode to 3.5 but after they restart the program it's still in 3.0 mode.

The solution to this (that worked fine for me) was as follows:

open the gamemodes.txt file in your Etools directory. Make a backup of it.

Edit (don't, and I repeat DON'T, cut and paste) it to read:

Code:
* Database_v35e.mdb	  D&&D v3.5e	  autopatch.sql	  eToolsHelp35.chm
The reason you have to edit the existing text is becuase the tab-spacings are very specific. If you screw it up it won't work.

Now my Etools 1.5 (3.5 database) is working perfectly.

Thank you - thank you - thank you!!!
I tried that and it worked! I can't go between 3.0 and 3.5 but I don't care as I no longer play 3.0.

Thanks again.

Actually, if you have 2 lines, 1 for 3.0 and 3.5, you'll be able to switch between modes using the 'Game Mode' option...

We're not sure why some people are not getting this 'out of the box' and other are, we're still looking into it... once we have a fix/definitive answer, we'll post it on our main page.

Hi all-
Well I made two lines, to my txt file, and I can't change game mode. When I go to Game Mode, I only see V3.5.
I too had the same problem, six times. I would add/remove programs to get the thing to work, and no go. So I've finally re-installed from the old 1.2.1 full install, did the 1.3 patch, 1.4.1 patch, then the 3.5 patch, then the 1.5 patch, then the mega bundle for jun 2004, then the lay on hands, and then used ETH to import my Stroun Campaign stuff.
Man what a hassle. Then it was still 3.0 and thats when I saw this message on how to fix it. And did as Mynex said, and now its fixed, but it certainly doesn't allow me to switch between game modes.
One thing I also noticed during the jun 2004 mega bundle was that when it was done it had an error messgae that said that there were many errors. Maybe that's why I dont' get too many other options from all the books.

You might make sure that both DB files actually exist and they're in the right directory. The alternate modes won't be listed if it finds anything wrong with the files.

As a side effect, when you switch DBs in ET Helper, it gives you the option of also switching the eTools mode. But I'm not sure what it will do if eTools itself doesn't recognize that as a valid mode.
