I have seen this idea before - the physics and economics are such that we could really get people on Mars (and keep the supplied), just so long as we don't worry about getting them back.

If I weren't married, and I fit their criteria, I'd consider it.

I'm sort of hoping this doesn't happen so soon, at least until we can explore a bit more thorougly with robots. Sending people will ruin any chance of finding out if there has ever been Mars-native life; the attendant microbes would cloud the picture too much.
