Anyone worked out a decent morale system?

Anyone?

I'm glad the rules aren't included in as part of each creature's description, as this should usually be up to the DM based on the circumstances. However, for random encounters and the like it would sometimes be nice to have a simple and elegant morale system.

My first thought would be to require a Will save, however I don't know if a high Wisdom neccessarily means a creature is difficult to break in combat.

What have others come up with?

Will save, DM sets DC, default to 10.

I think the Will save is perfect, though setting the DC must be up to the DM. DC 10 sounds low, but I'd check morale more often rather than less oftenm with a higher DC - if *soldiers* have a +9 Will save, they deserve to not run from battle.

For my homebrew mass combat system, I use a will save, with a DC based on the situation.

I use a new feat for troops to represent their training:

Martial Discipline(General)
Prerequisite: BAB+1

Benefit: The character receives a +4 bonus to a the WILL save required as a morale check. This feat may be taken one additional time for each point of WIS bonus (The feat may be taken one time regardless of a WIS penalty)

I also give other bonuses based on an applicable bard song, the leader's skill, etc.
