AoO and Tripping Question

Zipher

First Post
Just a quick question

Can a PC use an AoO to make a trip attack?

And if so, does that make the feat "Stand Still" pointless as I can trip you as you try to move out of a threatened square?

Consider both unarmed and SpikeChain using PC's..

Thanks!

It should be noted though, that according to page 21 of the current DnD Game Rules FAQ, you cannot make a trip attack as an AOO on standing up from prone. So you cannot always use Trip as an AOO responder.

This does not invalidate the Stand Still feat because of a slight difference in mechanics. Depending on circumstances, opponent strengths/weakenesses and attacker builds, one might be a better option to use at any given time than the other.

As an example, a really strong opponent with a poor reflex save might not be easily tripped.

7 These attack forms substitute for a melee attack, not an action. As melee attacks, they can be used once in an attack or charge action, one or more times in a full attack action, or even as an attack of opportunity.

It's in the Combat section.
