And even if you don't have a magic weapon, you can still aim for the bow string.

With house rules, maybe. D&D combat is abstract, which is why we don't have called shots or rules for parrying. It's assumed that that's already going on.

As for magic weapons, in my book, the entire weapon is magical. If the bow is, the string is as well. If the Halberd is magical, so is the shaft. You can't aim for part of the weapon or object, only the entire thing.

GMW is, indeed, a quick solution for sundering a magic bow, if necessary. Be prepared for the PC to be upset when you take his cool bow away from him though.

I'd probably only do that after some of the other tactics that exploit his inability to AoO.

Eventually he'll realize that archers work best when they have a meat shield in front of them.
