Ape Price? (not Ape Prince)

I thought the title was Ape Prince too. Damn, that's a great idea for an adventure.

So did I. Knowing Talath, he has done this on purpose, to lure more people into this strange thread. What end that would service, I know not, but we must flee, afore whatever fell plot he is hatching comes to fruition.

You sure he's not subliminal pimping for the Goods and Gear book? Ask a question only answerable with a product you're hyping... :)

Frankly, I think 30gp is too low. Heck you can't buy a horse for that, and they smell better..

A reasonable formula for an exotic animal cost ought to be:
days travel to location of animal * food cost * 2 (there and back)
+
cost of tools to capture animal
+
cost food for animal * days travel to location of animal (going back home)
+
time to train animal *(cost for food for animal+trainer's cost)

If the PCs do the work themselves, then that's the basic formula, less whatever work they do (like training to make it almost civil). If they buy one (or pay to have the work done), they will pay double that cost (standard business rule, each guy doubles his expenses and charges that much to the guy upstream). The older the animal, the more they will pay (true in livestock, exotic birds, pets).

Wow Janx, that's pretty good. I will have to use that so I can figure out the price for my Magebread Ape. Thank you, very insightful post.
