You have limited them.>></p><p></p><p>Trudie explains to the rest of the group, "The One Beside is one of the great enemy."</p><p></p><p>"Right, the outsider deities," replies Noah.</p><p></p><p>"Exactly. I was not certain if you would be familiar with it."</p><p></p><p>"We've dealt with cults of one of them, and we were informed at one point of of the existence of the others."</p><p></p><p>"An aspect will not be as dangerous as an avatar would have been, but I note that they speak of it being brought in in the past tense, which means that it is there."</p><p></p><p>"Right, so they've already succeeded at that."</p><p></p><p>"Exactly."</p><p></p><p>"The question to me is if we could kill it. Obviously, our group is not enough to to kill it. But if we got like a team of, say, 40 or 60 adventurers... The point is, if we could assemble enough forces, that the aspect is probably more killable than an avatar."</p><p></p><p>"I'm certain that it is," replies Trudie, "but I'm not certain that it is killable by us."</p><p></p><p>"That's true. You'd probably need very concentrated weaponry, a decent amount of magic. I don't know. But I think it still makes sense for us to try to get to Hanal City and take down the energy shield. The message was just, 'Be careful, don't do dumb stuff,' and not absolutely get back to Dwarf Mountain."</p><p></p><p>"I don't disagree," says Trudie. "Wait. I have another message."</p><p></p><p><<We are going to start a push on the kovnates in the east to give you more cover. Not sure your goal.>></p><p></p><p>She sends back, <<We seek to drop the energy shield, after meeting up with our full army, and then to destroy towers to keep energy shield down.>></p><p></p><p>They begin the travel back to Hanal City. They are about 60-70 miles south of Hanal City. A direct line would take them through some dense forest, or they could curve some and go back the way they came. They decide to take a straight-line approach, cutting through the forest, hoping that that will avoid contact with the Hanalian army. They are traveling dawn til dusk; it will take them two days to get to the woods, then four through the woods, and then another two days or so after leaving the woods before reaching the City.</p><p></p><p>They have barely set out when the uruk in the back says in Orkish, "Uhh... Boss... Something's following us. It's bigger than me, even though it's on all fours. It's trying to be stealthy, but it keeps breaking sticks."</p><p></p><p>Noah calls out, "Defensive positions! Something's behind us!"</p><p></p><p>Iados flies back from his position, flying over to see what was following them. He then returns and reports that there are five enormous wolves stalking them, about 7 feet tall at the shoulder. They are crawling when the brush is short to stay concealed, and thus demonstrating some intelligence.</p><p></p><p>Noah says, "That sounds like a family of dire wolves. Spellcasters, can you create illusory fire to scare them off from us?"</p><p></p><p>Ravokris says, "I can't make <em>illusory</em> fire...," as does Trudie.</p><p></p><p>Mx. Astor, however, can, and Noah proposes that they create an illusion of a ring of fire surrounding the party. The wolves turn and trot off, leaving the group standing there.</p><p></p><p>"They were probably mostly hunting your horse," Noah comments to Trudie.</p><p></p><p>"My horse is not food."</p><p></p><p>"Of course we're not going to eat the horse. I'm just saying that from the wolves' perspective..."</p><p></p><p>"And I'm just saying that if they tried to eat my horse they would have received a nasty surprise."</p><p></p><p>"Alright, fair."</p><p></p><p>"I fear that those wolves are eating well these days, though."</p><p></p><p>"Dire wolves need a lot of meat to sustain them," replies Noah. "Part of the reason the Hanalian military attempt to domesticate them totally failed. They eat too much, and they're too aggressive. So they they basically they manage to get one or two that were effectively really big dogs and that weren't very good at combat, and all the other ones were just expensive food sinkholes until they decided to can the project."</p><p></p><p>21 Kas</p><p>The day passes uneventfully; as evening comes on, they enter the woods.</p><p></p><p>24 Ka</p><p>On the third day in the woods, in the morning, a glowing green floating light appears above them and follows them. They largely ignore it. Some hours later, six streams of green glowing light shine down from the light above them into the woods ahead of them. There is a sizzling pop sound.</p><p></p><p>Mx. Astor becomes very agitated. They don't like the woods very much, and now there is highly unnatural stuff going on.</p><p></p><p>A little while later, a volley of arrows comes in. Trudie gets hit critically for 10, while the uruk takes 3. There is no sound except the arrows and the crackling of the lines of greenish light that are still going down into the woods around them.</p><p></p><p>Iados flies down, following one of the tendrils. It goes directly down to an archer in rusted platemail with a bow, striking the archer in the head. He shoots an arrow back, missing poorly, though perhaps drawing its attention. With most of his attention on the tendril of energy, he is not as perceptive as he might have been.</p><p></p><p>Noah rushes up to one of the attackers, raging as he approaches, and attacks it. He hacks it to pieces, dealing 19 and 10 points of damage. The uruk engages another, hitting it for 8 points of damage.</p><p></p><p>The enemy then go, with four firing, one critting Iados (8 damage, reduced from 16 by a reaction from Noah) while another hits Mx. Astor for 7. The one that the uruk attacked drops its bow and switches to a sword.</p><p></p><p>Trudie moves forward, sees that these are clearly undead, and calls out a traditional commoner ward against evil spirits while throwing some salt forward, turning undead. All the ones that can see her turn and begin fleeing.</p><p></p><p>The green light blinks a couple of times, and then the tendrils shift to deeper into the woods.</p><p></p><p>Ravokris suspects that the green orb is raising undead to fight them, and he fires an Agannazor's scorcher at the green orb in the sky, dealing 21 damage. Little flaming pieces of green fall off it, but it's still up. Mx. Astor follows up by blasting it with magic missiles for 10 damages.</p><p></p><p>Iados scatters some ball bearings in the path of one of the fleeing undead, which falls to the ground and stops moving.</p><p></p><p>Noah rushes forward and hacks another to pieces, as does the uruk.</p><p></p><p>The green thing shifts to trying to hit each of Ravokris and Mx. Aster with three tendrils. Ravokris is hit three times for 24 points of corruption damage, and needs to make a Constitution saving throw, which he fails. Mx. Astor takes 13 points of damage, and also needs to make a Constitution saving throw, which she makes with a natural 20, making her immune to its corruption.</p><p></p><p>Trudie drops a flame strike on the green entity, dealing 7 points of fire damage and 8 points of radiant damage.</p><p></p><p>Ravokris fires off another Agonazer's Scorcher, this time at 4th level, dealing 17 damage. Mx. Astor hits it with more Magic Missiles, and it's looking fainter or weaker than it was, but it's still up there.</p><p></p><p>Iados flies over and tries to stab the green globe with his rapier. He stabs it successfully, though not terribly effectively.</p><p></p><p>Noah flings two javelins, hitting it with both, for 10 and 14. The uruk flings another, missing.</p><p></p><p>The glowing orb blasts greenish lightning along the shaft of the javelin down to Noah. He makes a save, but takes 22 points of damage and has to make another Constitution save, which he succeeds at easily.</p><p></p><p>They easily blast it away before it can go again.</p><p></p><p>Trudie casts a Death Ward on Ravokris, which stops him from taking continuing damage, and a Lesser Restoration, which has no effect. She also casts a Bless, and a 3rd level cure spell; she has to make a check to successfully heal him, but she succeeds. They then take a short rest; Ravokris cannot spend hit dice to heal. The corruption is making it difficult to heal him, either with mundane or magical means.</p><p></p><p>Trudie casts a Divination asking Gunnora how to best treat Ravokris. She suddenly begins automatically writing a 3rd level spell, which gives her Remove Minor Corruption. She can tell that there are greater levels of corruption, but she believes that this will be sufficient to cure Ravokris. Trudie expresses some surprise about this--usually, Divination provides less direct and more ambiguous guidance. She can only assume that Gunnora's great experience fighting against the outsider deities makes Her especially well-suited to fight their corruption.</p><p></p><p>They stop travel and then camp for the night.</p><p></p><p>[End Session 53]</p></blockquote><p></p>
