Appraising Eberron

So how is this setting doing? Is it the success WotC wanted it to be? Is it a failure? How does it stand up to Greyhawk or Forgotten Realms?

I have no axe to grind. I've never played Eberron and, from what I know of it, it doesn't particularly appeal to me for whatever reason. I'm just interested in knowing what the future holds for Eberron.

I have no idea how it is selling. Wizards just doesn't tell us that.

I am no fan of the setting, but the books are well done. There are issues with giving out too much info but I really perfer the book style they have. I think the future holds more books.

My FLGS owner has said that Eberron had taken a tumble earlier this year, Forgotten Realms has stayed relatively steady, and D&D Minis is a great seller (although no one is buying them to play D&DM).

So my guess is that the main bit of interest in it has faded, leaving just the core lovers of Eberron.

I've bought everything Eberron except for novels and adventures, and am not going to stop doing this any time soon. I like the setting, and that's where my current tabletop game is. Can't say about anyone else.

When the ECS came out, the owner of my FLGS said "everyone loved Eberron" and compared its sales very favorably to Complete Warrior. I haven't asked since then.

I think it'd be an unqualified success if only they could clone Keith Baker and make him write all the books :o

Overall, I like Eberron a lot, in fact I run it for my Friday group when our main DM would like some downtime - he currently runs our Arcana Unearthed/Evolved campaign.

Now I will be upfront, I'm a huge Greyhawk fan, been so since I started playing D&D back in Jan of '80, and I like it more than Eberron, but only by a bit.

Its about as well-done, although different in flavor, as Forgotten Realms, but I like Eberron a bit more than FR.

It is an interesting twist on the D&D genre, adding contemporary touches without making it a modern setting - I mean, its technomagic, but its not technomagic.

Anyhow, I'd say that Eberron is selling pretty well, as its been the basis for not only for the campaign, but also a pair of computer games. Plus the novels are average to above average, I've enjoyed them, at least.

Gawd came to me in a dream last night and said Eberron is selling very well. ... And that I need to stop spending so much money on game material and give to the poor and needy instead. I got the feeling that helping people out of poverty is a good thing. (shrug)

Anyway. Sales up.

Hard to say. Though not a Game store, the two book stores I visit most always have Eberron stuff availiable. Not all FR is availiable.

There is plenty of material still to be covered. Faiths just came out. Dragonmarked houses in Nov and Sarlona in January. This leaves the Dragon island and Elven lands. There are still the non-core 5 nations also.

I see it running strong for another 2 years anyway.

Folks mentioned DDM figures and every set has some Eberron specific figures since Giants came out. I expect an Eberron themed one next year.
