Appraising Eberron

My FLGS owner has said that Eberron had taken a tumble earlier this year, Forgotten Realms has stayed relatively steady, and D&D Minis is a great seller (although no one is buying them to play D&DM).

So my guess is that the main bit of interest in it has faded, leaving just the core lovers of Eberron.

I'd suggest also that it might be linked to the actual books of that timeframe. Some of the Eberron books have gotten poor reviews, though fans seem to disagree on which ones. :)

(I loved Explorers, other hated it. I don't care for Faiths, others love it, etc. I think most found Magic to be subpar, but who knows.)

Eberron books may have just been too polarizing this year.

The concept of the Underdark predates the publication of FR.

Why, oh why does everyone equate Underdark with FR?

I liked FR for many years, but they really do tend to swallow concepts and make them seem "FR Only".

I doubt they will, and certainly hope they don't. I'm a *huge* Eberron fan, but making any one DDM release overly specific for *any* campaign setting would be a mistake, IMHO. The hue and cry from fans of other settings would be deafening, and would likely lead to too many lost sales on WotC's part. I'm very happy with the way they do it now, mixing a few campaign-specific figures into each release, changing the numbers up a bit each time.

I doubt we'll see a direct Eberron centralized set, but keep in mind that the set "theme" usually only encompasses a third of the total figures.

It could be neat to see a Last War booster set though, with some more "sophisticated" military stuff, compared to Wardrums seeming a bit more primitive, though it had the Arcane Ballista. Maybe the Homonculi could make an appearance for instance.

hmm...

Good: Iron Defenders.
Better: Iron Defenders with wings! (a la Improved Homonculus from Magic of Eberron)
Best: A quori, a monk of The Mockery, a Kech Volaar, Lhesh Haruuc, a Bone Knight, a mounted Valenar, an Aerenal necromancer, etc. etc.
