[April 2016 Edition] What Are You Reading?

Just finished reading All the Birds in the Sky by Charlie Jane Anders, of io9 fame. I quite enjoyed it, though in places its ambitions outstripped itself. Definitely a multifaceted book.

Now I’m starting reading My Father, the Pornographer: A Memoir. It almost escaped my notice, but it’s written by Chris Offutt, son of Andrew Offutt (who wrote a bunch of Thieves World stuff). In addition to his sci-fi and fantasy works, he apparently wrote hundreds of pornographic works under various pseudonyms.

Despite saying I wanted to find new books, I picked up a really old one instead: Winston Churchill's "The World Crisis" (in hindsight, could have been titled "What I Did During World War ONE"). Churchill came out of WW2 a National Hero, but he was a goat - and a scapegoat - during WW1. He is terribly hurt and often defensive as he writes, about 1923. I wish I could find some of the other people's memoirs to see how they remember events he relates. If you like you-are-there history, though, this is a book for you.

The last time I read this book, I was inspired to craft a naval miniatures wargame. Now I find myself resisting the urge to go buy a bunch of battleship minis.
But I'm going to indulge the urge to pull Churchill's "Second World War" and read it (or parts) over the summer.
