Heh. My point is, I've seen at least two Midnight threads in the d20 games board.

Really? I guess i don't check in there often enough, sence the d20 modern and M&M games i was playing ended. Like i said, in my mind i automatically associate AU and midnight with D&D, but obviously not everyone does. I guess a ruling either way would be cool. Although i too would prefure an all or nothing enforcement of what ever descition is made. Why confuse things and make them harder to deal with, right?

A couple of things...

I'm not sure how much the average forum user is aware of the whole OGL vs D20 compliancy issue (though many are very aware, of course), particularly casual users. It really seems to me that most will instinctively view AU and Midnight as D&D products, whatever the technicalities. There certainly has been a lot of discussion of both in the Gen Discussion forum. Thus, putting discussion of such products may be confusing to some.

Also, I think it's worth noting that AU and Midnight are not stand-alone RPGs (as far as I understand), like the others normally discussed in the d20 system forum.

Well, anyway, whatever the moderators decide will be OK with me. I keep deciding to wait to buy AU,then I go to that long AU thread (now in the d20 System forum) and receive an urge to get it.

I agree that while technically that AU should probably go in d20/OGL games that its spirit seems to fit general RPG and DnD rules better than pretty much any other non DnD game.

I second that emotion.

There have been debates over the fragmenting of the game, into 3.0, 3.5, Midnight, AU, etc. Many "settings" introduce so many alternate rules that they barely qualify as DnD. Was Dark Sun DnD, just because it was TSR? Will the setting search contest winner's creation qualify as DnD?

It is a tough judgment call to decide what goes in the General forum v. the d20/OGL forum, but I if my vote counts then put me down for AU in General.

There's a new wrinkle to add to this discussion.

Monte Cooks recent PDF releases of AU extracts are d20 system products, with the d20 logo on the cover. Doesn't this clearly put AU into the Gen Discussion area?

I think for purposes of keeping things straight, it's better to keep Arcana Unearthed in the d20 forum for now. Any AU threads that get started in General that need to be moved will be redirected to d20 anyway, and people will likely get the hang of it soon enough.

It may be a situation where eventually AU may need its own forum (though unlikely at this point), but it depends solely on popularity.

But still, because it's an OGL / d20 license, I'm lobbying for the d20 forum being its correct home on ENWorld.

Wait, wouldn't that mean that all discussion of non-WotC products should take place in the d20-system forum?
