Arcane Hierophant by 6th level

I've been trying to build an Arcance Hierophant that qualifies by 6th level, so I can wildshape AND select the Natural Spell feat at that level. Precocious Apprentice feat satisfies the 'cast 2nd level arcane spell' quickly, but I'm having trouble meeting the +4 base attack bonus by that level. And suggestions? Thanks.

Percocious Apprentice feat does NOT give you the ability to cast 2nd level spells. It gives you a chance (with a chance to fail) of casting ONE 2nd level spell.

I'd check with your DM about that one... it woudn't work at my table. YMMV.

You could almost do it if your GM used fractional attack bonuses. As in wizard 3 gives you +1.5, and druid 3 gives you +2.25.

How early do duskblades get 2nd level spells?

The only way I can think of doing this is to take 5 levels in druid, then take one level in something that has full BAB and has its own arcane spell list. I don't know very much about the duskblade. There may be Prestige Classes that qualify, but they probably only have 4th or 5th level spells.

It has been pointed out by the designer of that feat, that it is not the point to use it to qualify for PrC and it shouldn't be allowed to be used this way.

The prerequisite for spellcasting prestige classes is true spellcasting ability, not just something like what you gain with Precocious Apprentice.

Do you consider a 4th level sorcerer in leather armor to have the ability to cast 2nd level spells?

How about a 3rd level wizard with a 12 Int in leather armor?

well, that's a loaded question... ;)
but yes.

I would rule that the Precocious Apprentice does not give you the ability to cast 2nd level spells. Just like UMD doesn't.

Your above examples aren't introducing a chance of failure because the aren't properly trained to cast a 2nd level spell... the chance of failure comes from their wardrobe.

What if the Precocious Apprentice has the Arcane Mastery feat, and can Take 10 on the DC8 caster level check? No chance of failure any more...

I agree with the other posters about the Precocious Apprentice feat not working for qualifying.

That said, I don't think the math works for you. I think 7th level is where you need to be for this.

Thanks,

Or how about a 5th-level druid with UMD and a couple 2nd-level arcane scrolls. :p
