To be honest, I think the 15 foot range is enough of a limitation that you can't buff the whole party (you can only buff 2 anyway, plus yourself). I think this just needs to be buffed so this includes aoe spells and perhaps other non magical attacks like breath weapons

"are targeted by a spell" and "are the target of a spell" read differently for me. I read the former as being more general.

This is a subtle but valid point, and yet another example of why just using words can be more complicated than using keywords after one has learned the absolute basics. At least, it would warrant a clarification of what constitutes a target: are creatures inside an AOE targets of the spell, or targets are such only when individually and deliberately chosen by the caster?
