Arcane Spell Failure (and reducing it)

A Twilight Mithril Shirt has a 0% ASF.

If you are a 1st level Spellsword, a Twilight Mithril Chainmail or Breastplate has a 0% ASF and even a Twilight Mithril Fullplate has only a 5% ASF.

So that Twilight is a special ability? Then Twilight Blended Quartz Bleastplate has no arcane spell falure. Or, the 1st-level Spellsword can wear Trilight Blended Quartz Full-Plate without trouble.

I believe that's what Thanee is suggesting. I do know there's another War thing, War Wizards of Comryr get to decrease their ASF.

Another Pr-class that still can work for 3.5, Calastian Battlemage via Calastia: Throne of the Black Dragon.

If you like combining powers, Hallowed Mage from Book of Hallowed Might is better than Theurge AND you can cast both arcane and divine spells WITHOUT spell failure at 10th level.

Really, once you're above, say, 6th level, Mage Armor or Greater Mage Armor is probably just fine for dungeon-type adventuring, where you know you will need protection "for this afternoon." If you want it all the time, though, then what the others said :)

If you're a dwarf this is a great choice. For all intents and purposes all of their spells are Still Spells, and thus no ASF.

I also believe there is an Elven Prestige class that allows you to wear Light armor (Bladesinger maybe?), but that may be 3.0.

Thanks for all the posts.

I wanted a Wizard's options (plenty given), since the Warmage is too restrictive for what I wanted, and their armour ability only allows them to cast from their own spells not from another class.

Twilight sounds like a good candidate (depending on cost / adjustment).

Does Battle Caster allow you to take Light Armour Proficiency and enjoy the benefits?

As for the Mage Armour arguments, yes its great, however the concept I was looking for is an armoured Wizard of some nature. I'm not trying to "optimise" the character.

See if your DM while let you take feats thats let you wear armour with no SF. Really I don't see why spell failure needs to exist at all. I removed it from my game, and its no big deal. The caster classes still need to spend the feats to gain the armor proficiencies, and most often they don't bother.

We are playing "by the rules" and I'm happy for Spell Failure to exist. It isn't a big deal for me.

We also have a standing rule (which I agree with as well) that hard copy must be available to use something. So a feat must exist in an approved sourcebook for example.

And currently I don't need Armour Proficiency because Mithral reduces the proficiency penalty to 0 in my case, so I was only asking about the proficiency in regards to Battle Caster.

Unfortunately, not. You must first have an ability to ignore arcane spell failure chance from armor of certain category, like bard, hexblade, warlock or warmage.

U do not have to wear any armor at all... why should a mage do that? Would mess up predecided nature of "Plateless"...
But if you got to have armor... use Bracers

They can give +10 without being Epic...
Normal armor rules aply, (bonus squared) x 1000
10 x 10 x 1000 - 100000 aren't that expensive.. and +10 to armor for a mage, *yay*

Btw, when u reach higher levels... monsters have +60 to hit, as one of my players said,.. Why even wear armor.. they lower attacks are just 5 lower than the max.. They will jsut hit anyway..

Spend your money on something more useable
