Arcane spell failure revisited...again...

Ok. I just want to answer some questions that seem to be ignored a lot in play.

Say we have a small battle in which the wizard goes last in the round, and was attacked and hit for a few points of damage before it gets to his turn. When he gets to act, he decides to cast a spell that takes a Standard action to cast. Does he need to make a Concentration check to see if the spell works?

How about the spells that take a full round to cast? When are they completed - at the beginning of the wizard's next turn, or during his current turn?

Thanks in advance

If you are hit and try to cast a spell later, you don't need to make a concentration check. You only need to make one if someone readied an action to hit you as you are casting the spell.

When you cast a spell that has a casting time of one round, you are casting the spell from your initiative count to just before your initiative count in the next turn, so any hit you'll take during that time will force you to make a Concentration check.

(related question: You start casting a spell that has a casting time of 1 round. An enemy comes next to you. Do you provoke an AoO for being in the middle of casting?)

The question you have to ask yourself is Am I taking damage DURING my casting?. If yes, then you have to make a concentration check,.
