Arcane Thesis

Feats: Arcane Thesis (magic missile), Empower Spell, Quicken Spell, Silent Spell, Still Spell.

Sorcerors are spontaneous casters, they can't benefit from Quicken Spell.

If you're using Arcane Thesis with magic missile, you're not trying hard enough.

Amen. Chain Split ray Enervation. Reach Sculpt Antimagic Field. Chain Fell Weaken Black Lore of Moil Ray of Exhaustion. Energy Substitution Born of three thunders Still Silent Empowered Maximized Scorching Ray (I think this one uses up all feat slots of a normal Wizard...). Soooo many horrible things to do, it's a pity to waste it on such easy stuff as Magic Missile.

Just an FYI, you can't use Chain Spell on Ray spells (Enervation, Ray of Exhaustion, Disintegrate, etc).

Chain Spell only works on spells that have a "Target:" entry that targets one creature or object.

Ray spells are "Effect: Ray" and have no "Target: " entry at all, and thus can't be Chained.

Its funny that this thread is so diverse, considering wizards released an errata for the phbII and this is covered in it.

Should read, “When you apply any metamagic feats
other than Heighten Spell” Thus if you were to
prepare an empowered maximized magic missile
(assuming magic missile is the spell you choose for
your Arcane Thesis), it would be prepared as a 4th
level spell (+1 level for empowered, down from +2;
and +2 levels for maximized, down from +3).

Page 74 – Arcane Thesis [Omission]
Add the following text to the end of the “Benefit”
section: “A spell cannot be reduced to below its
original level with the use of this feat.”

So its quite clear, that its like the original designer intended it to be. Each metamagic feat is 1 level less of an adjument, but heighten is ignored and it cant drop below its initial level.

Combined with the metamagic school specialization feat though (Complete mage I believe).. wooo, this could still be very powerful.

Edit: Thinking about it, it says the spell can't be reduced below its original level, but it doesn't say the modifiers cant be reduced below zero. So while a fireball can't be lower than 3rd level, an empowered energy substition fireball would still be level 3. ( 3 + (2-1) + (0-1) )

Think they should of clarified that one.

Yup yup yup. We talked about this when the errata (finally) came out. They tried to fix it, but they fixed it wrong.
