Archer Woes

I'll disagree about the OoBI being a useful PrC, primarily because it's main ability is based upon making a single attack in a round and doing so within a range of 30 ft, both of which run counter to an archer's primary strengths in D&D: being able to get full attacks off on a regular basis and doing so at a range where you are safe from melee opponents.

Bah, freckin' machine-gun archers.

Take this feat and this prestige class if you want a one-shot-kill specialist. Or if that's too munchkin for you, this prestige class, although that might actually be a bit on the weak side.

Really? we have a 12th archer - straight fighter that regularly out damage produces the rest of the party. We are fighting mainly drow adnd demons, and her bow is kept Aligned good, producing a rarely missing machinegun effect 4 attacks d8+10 at 30' or less
ut we have a moderate level of magic equipment and good stats.

Advice - take the 12th lvl of fighter for GWS - then pick a prestige class

I think putting all of a Fighter build into "only melee" or "only archery" is a mistake, though the small map scales seem to make "only melee" characters more viable than they should be. If you can convince the DM to let you take a feat that works like Power Attack for archery, your character will rock even at +1 damage per -1 attack. It's not quite as good now as it was back in the "bonus stacking goodness" days of 3.0, but it's still slightly broken unless limited to BAB 11+.

If you know you're fighting giants and dragons, you can see about getting arrows with giant or dragon bane (+1 arrows of this sort cost about 160 gp each). I don't know how readily items of this sort are available to you, but if you know the creature types ahead of time it's always a good idea to prepare specifically for them! Ammo is easier to customize than weapons.

If you have good Strength, a two-handed weapon makes a fine backup weapon. If you also have Quick Draw, a two-handed reach weapon is even better.

2nd world Simulations had some good feats. One allowed you to put one arrow into every square in a four square by four square area (quick way to get more attacks against truely huge creatures). Another allowed you an advaced version or reading an action. Instead of getting one shot, you coud shoot anyone entering a defined area.

Thanks Guys,

That was all Very Helpful. Actually Contrary to what you would think it is barbarian in the party that does the most damage. He has a 3d8 +9 weapon with 10" reach and the improved initiative feat. If we go up against something big the cleric enlarges the Barbarian and then he goes into rage, giving him a strength of 32!. As you can imagine damage is massive. Best effeort yet (with power attack) was 115 points. As you can see when I'm pinging combatants at 10-12 points per shot I'm fairly low powered. Once again thanks for all the suggestions.
