Archspell and Shape Magic

Can an Archmage select the Shape Magic spell for his Archspell level 30 ability? That would seem to be a bit powerful, as it would let you regain a spell every encounter!

Oh I think you can do that. Page 54 of the PHB only describes power types by how often they are used (at-will, encounter and daily) so the Utility power "Shape Magic" counts. It would let you cast a daily in every single encounter. If you rest for you'll be able to get all your dailies back

I suppose it's about as powerful as the level 30 demigod power which allows you to have virtually infinite encounter powers.

No, you cannot.

Archspell refers to choosing a spell, not a Power. Not exploits, not prayers, not any other type of power but a "daily spell".

Shape Magic is not a Spell. Not all powers are Spells, only some are.

By RAW and intent, no.

IMO, all arcane powers are spells, be they utility or attacks. So shape magic (being an arcane daily) would be considered a daily spell, even though it is a utility and not an attack.

Where does it say that utility powers cannot be spells? Because that seems to be your argument.

Check all the Epic Destiny powers, they have no power source. They aren't Exploits, Spells, Prayers or anything of the sort.

Shape Magic isn't a spell, it's not Arcane. It's totally invalid target for Archspell.

... If the trick worked, then the wizard could use Legion's Hold (and all his other dailies) once per encounter. He could get back Daily powers once every minutes.
