I'm curious to see if this poll will work...

I've noticed that almost all gamers I've met (on this board and otherwise) are very good with computers, and a large number of us work in fields related to computers. I worked in Micro Center for a while, but now I work for a classical sheet music company. I wonder what the average profession for a gamer is?

Just an interesting fact.

I know things about computers, but not NEAR enough to qualify me as a computer guru (ex.: last night I installed a new video card and 128 megs of RAM and nearly fried my computer. Dumb-donkey me ;)). My job right now is working at a freaking Weis Markets, for heavens sake. ;)

I know how to get on the net and not a whole lot more its not really that important to me though I do like visiting this sight.

I really don't know that much about computers. But I am learning more all the time.:)

Make sure to take into account that everyone who posts here is at least basically web literate, or they wouldn't be here. You are likely to get many more of the computer geeks (myself included) responding to your poll than a random samp-ling of gamers would indicate. I am the only gamer I know of RL who reads these boards, and not all are very computer literate.

Your categories are just a bit unfortunate... there's no proper place for (a) people working in engineering development, (b) non-web computer artists (application or fine arts), (c) CS students, (d) consultants, freelancers, or contract workers. An "other computer related" option would have been great.

i used to be a web developer, but after getting laid off in the dotcom crash, i'm now heading back to college to become a math teacher. :)

of my current group, i'm the only one who's ever been paid to work with computers, but one other is hoping to get into web development in the future...

Heh.

I'm studying engineering, and am probably the least geeky of the folks I hang out with at school. Nevertheless, when the subject of D&D comes up, they're all, 'I'm a geek, but not that much of a geek.'

Well, I'm in college (CMU) in comp sci. But can't say for sure now. what does that fit under?

I guess that would put you in the "no, but I'm a guru category". I would have made more answer categories, but this gives me enough of an idea. :)
