are Lions size Large?

I don't think they are, but I wanted a consensus. I'm not talking about Dire lions, but the average African lion. I mean, they're hefty and all, but are they size Large or Medium? They're not the size of a horse, or of a Large giant. Then again, they're not the size of a Dwarf either, though they could be the size of a good-sized Goliath.

any opinions/facts?

Here's an image I found online. I'm sort of torn: they're the same length and dimensions, but muscularture and scale I'd say they're so much heftier. If Dwarves can be short and still Medium, I'd say the lion is "short" for a Large creature. Then again, the same deal could be with lions and Goliaths, who are Medium but big and buff.

Gathering information/polling here would be key. Please!

National Geographic stats:

Size:
Head and body, 4.5 to 6.5 ft (1.4 to 2 m); Tail, 26.25 to 39.5 in (67 to 100 cm)
Weight:
265 to 420 lbs (120 to 191 kg)

I figure they were made size Large in 3.x to give them huge grapple bonuses. Also, people just picture lions as being larger than them.

413-432 lb average weight for African male lion - What is the average weight of a male African lion - over twice average human weight - I'm happy to put it in the Large category.

There's a case for putting female Lions in the Medium category, but for game purposes I'd rather class them all as Large, with Medium for the smaller big cats such as American mountain lions, jaguars and cougars. Leopards are slightly tricky but I'd put them Medium rather than Large.

Edit: If you see adult lions IRL, they are all very clearly 'bigger than people', which I think should be the determinant.
