Are magic arms and armour overpriced?

The result is that less powerful abilities like Silent Moves increase the armor's price geometrically as you add more on, while more powerful abilities like Spell Resistance increase the price exponentially.

Actually, I think you mean that less powerful abilities increase the price arithmetically (or linear, an adding rule), while more powerful abilities increase the price as a square (I guess you could loosely use either geometric or exponentially for this latter item, but it's not technically either).

No. The last thing the game needs is ACs and magic bonuses going through the rough[roof]. You think the game is magic and gear oriented now?
Agreed. Weapon and armor prices are not too high. They should be higher.

The cheaper you make things, the MORE equipment-reliant PCs become. Our game should have less equipment reliance, not more!

I think that the actual "plusses" on magical weapons is too high in 3.5, given the change in DR rules. Before, it was really useful to have a +5 weapon because it could beat DR that a +1 (or even +4) weapon simply couldn't. Now, it makes more sense to leave it as a +1 weapon and just put on the add-ons (+1 holy undead-bane outsider-bane dragon-bane), maybe making it adamantine (or give it that T-1000 ability to fix itself) if your DM is in a Sundering mood.

....in addition, with a competant Cleric in your party, your weapon could be a +1 holy evil outsider bane screaming cold iron greatsword (a weapon I highly recommend), yet have a higher Enhancement bonus for Greater Magic Weapon.

I don't think any of the magic items are overpriced... lol. To me the idea of magic items is not that you should be going to a shop and having them made frequently, but that you should be finding them out on your adventures. The commission of a magic item should be rare.

Shields double that.

But then you can't use a two-handed weapon!

(Without animating the shield, that is)

I don't necessarily have a problem with the price of arms and armor...I want useful options that aren't too expensive for their own good, *and* don't take forever to make.

The last three games I've been in didn't have nearly enough downtime for commissioning much in the way of new items or upgrades. That 1000 gp of item value/day is rather annoying.

There's also the themeful thing about magic weapons and magic armour being cheaper than other magic items - this will make PCs with low resources more likely to go for the sword and the armour than for rings and belts and gloves and and and...

The magic sword and magic armour is a fantasy staple. More heroes have these items than heroes who have other magic items.
