D&D 5E Are Mind Flayers slimy?

I've always assumed that they would have skin similar to real-world cephalopods of various description. I've heard octopus skin described as velvet over tough muscle. I don't know about nautiluses, squids, and cuttlefish, though.

Slimy and clothing don't work well together. But, I want it to be... disturbing. So, I go with rubbery.

They are even more creepy if you give them a mundane feel and smell.

For example, they feel warm and soft and they smell of nutmeg.
