Are occupations in Modern adventures too much to ask for?

I've bought several Modern adventures recently, most in PDF format but a couple in "real-book" format, and I've noticed an annoying trend: no occupations.

In Operation Winterkill, Columbia D20 (has two adventures) and Full Circle, none of the NPCs have occupations. Am I missing something important here? Is there a reason for th is? Are occupations so hard to use when making NPCs that publishers don't use them? This isn't something I noticed when making my own NPCs and not one of my PCs have complained about it. I have not noticed this trend in the free adventures from WotC or from what I can find for Darwin's World so clearly it's not amazingly difficult to do.

Edit: Raid on Ashkashem did have occupations.

This reminds me of a thread about game designers not playtesting and being evil... ;)

In any case, all my d20 Modern NPCs will have an occupation. ;)

Hi there (Psi)SeveredHead (May I call you PSH? No? Good enough)

Just seemed natural to use occupations--not in the stat blocks, mind you, but in the NPC descriptions. Glad to see it met with some approval.

Hope you enjoy the product. Let me know if you have any other comments or complaints.

Take care all.

Sure, if you want to.

Well yes, but that's what I would expect, following the rules.

Some minor editing errors. I guess since it's a PDF I could compile the errors and send them to you, but they're all really nitpicky.

Just kidding, but since you've assented . . . hey PSH, how's it goin'?

I really don't want to ask someone to do my work for me, but if there's anything in the product that would make you decide NOT to buy "the Qenashar Device," the sequel to "Raid on Ashkashem," I would appreciate you letting me know.

Comments about the product can be sent to me at

Thanks for the mention and the comments.

Take care all.

No need to worry - there's absolutely nothing that would keep me from buying the product (assuming I got the chance to see it before I bought it). Just little errors like high-level characters not getting those extra ability points every 4 levels. That's probably not even big enough to cause a noticeable effect in combat or when making skill checks.

Chance to see before buying? Meaning preview?

Wah! Holy crap, good catch. Cameron's the only one with the points. Completely forgot about that. Errata, here we come. Won't happen with "the Qalashar Device," you have my word on that. Once the errata is up at the website, we'll be doing a customer mailing to let everyone know. My apologies to everyone. Mea Culpa.

PSH, I'm in Kitchener, but I sometimes work in Toronto for a month at a time. I owe you a beer. Let me know at swordsedgepublishing AT yahoo DOT ca if you're interested.

Of course, some other stupid mistake will happen. I'm funny that way--not funny hah-hah, but you know what I mean.
