Hey, there's already three types of magic...

Divine magic, of clerics and paladins; natural magic of druids and rangers, and arcane magic.

Except that natural magic is still divine. In truth, a spell is a spell is a spell, no matter who casts it, but I still like the division of supplication magic, magic that is called by ritual, and magic that exists because some individuals simply will it to be so.

Psionics, as far as I'm concerned, removes the fantasy aspect of a good game in the same manner that an arquebus does.

That's a very... dogmatic and limited view of "fantasy".

But to each their own, I suppose.

I don't think psionics are core. But I think WotC has decided that psionics has spent too many years as the red-headed stepchild, and that most gamer don't think it's embarrassing for psionics to exist in D&D anymore.

I think that their approach now is a good balance between both. Options are supported, but not required. And don't whine about wasted paper -- I prefer they put one or two pages of options I have no need for than they pad the whole book with those overprinted clip-art pieces.
Agreed.

I use psionics, and I appreciate a bit of support in other suppliments. I don't think psi should ever be incorporated into the core rules, though.

Psionics in sci fi games? Sure, why not?

Psionics in fantasy games? No interest.

Psionic creatures? Amongst the silliest, so no interest at all.

Leave them as an option, but do not make psionics part of the "core".

What Makes Psionics

Psionics shouldn't be a point based version of Magic.

Psionic monsters have at will spell-like abilities.

Psionic races, characters, and classes should provide at will spell-like abilities instead of a faux spellcasting system. I have high hopes for the new class in Complete Arcane that provides unlimited spells will better simulate the true difference between Psionics and Magic.

They are only as core as I want them. And with the Slacerians being Godminds, they are semi-core for Scarred Lands. Otherwise I'm doing what I'm doing which is promoting the Scarred Lands! :D

Usually the only protection from psionics is psionics.
While this was certainly true in 1E and 2E, it isn't in 3E (either with the PsiHB or the XPH). In fact, the XPH has a number of feats to frustrate psions, which are only available to those without psionics.
