Are the WOTC forums borked?

As a WizO over there I can say that it isn't something we're enjoying either. I believe that it has to do with changing some things in preparation for D&D Insider, but even we haven't gotten an official answer. We're just supposed to report bugs as we find them.

Sorry I can't give you a clearer idea, everyone!

So, are you just sending them an endless string of IMs that say "It don't work!"?

I know it's annoying me, and I'm not the one who has to worry about it.
Good luck to you guys.

(Standard computer advice: Turn all the servers off, count slowly to 30, and turn everything back on. If that doesn't work, Uninstall your forum software and reinstall it.)

I'm not surprised their forums are down ... again.

I'm more surprised when their forums are up. They remind me of the Mac/Vista commercials, "I'm happy to report I've been error free for over a week..."
That is a pretty big exaggeration. The Wizards forums usually work pretty well. WHile there are times when they crash, that happens to every forum or website from time to time. Can you honestly say that ENWorld has never had bad weeks?

Done wrong, that's also a great way to mess up your database.

All I can really say is that they are one of the worst forums for "unplanned maintenance" I've ever seen. There have been entire weeks when they were unavailable. If I follow a link there I get error messages or a forum down warning more than I get the link. And this is a forum run by a sizable corporation, not a fan site powered by donations in somebody's home. When their site goes down and stays down so frequently it erodes any confidence in their ability as a company to provide digital support. Considering it's this bad with a web forum how bad do you think things will be on a much more intensive app like the virtual game table?

I used to work on that board, so seeing it's troubles breaks my heart. On the other hand, I could tell that they where monkeying with vbulletin's internal authentication schema when they went to Gleemax and at that point I knew there would be trouble.

vbulletin may be a god-awful huge php script, but it's not a trivial application. It's took me what, 2 years to finally get it tussled down for our next big upgrade?

It has been rather problem filled lately, which (aside from WotC's history with making anything computer application related), does not fill me with hope about seeing DDI anytime soon.

It is kinda funny though, to be reading posts and then suddenly you get database errors when you try to move to the next page. Or worse, post a response.

Yeah, it's what I call 'Deliberate bad advice'. It's a form of sarcasm.

And in this case, it seems (given that the Database can't even find the 404 error page) that they couldn't really mess it up more, even if they did it wrong.

If I tell someone that smacking a crystal vase with a hammer will fix it, that's bad advice. But since they already dropped that crystal vase four floors onto a concrete floor, it's a moot point.

Soo Desu Ka?

But maybe if I just hit it hard enough I'll reduce entropy this time;)

I'm glad any of the really good stuff I'd found there in years past I saved. Cause I have a suspicion there about to lose their database in a major way.

What is the matter with the WotC forums? I check and they're down for hours, then they come up and I start checking threads and they go down, or I'll be posting and they go down.
This never used to happen this bad, or was I just blissfully unaware of it? True since the release, I have been on the forums more often, but in the week or so between the release of 4E and the release of the GSL, the only downtime I encountered was the regularly sheduled downtime at 2:00 am pt. This was also the time of the reorganzation of the forums, if I'm not mistaken.
Hmmm! I hope DDi doesn't act like this.
