Pathfinder 1E Are there healing surges in Pathfinder?

Assuming that's correct: So?

There's nothing in rules of 3.5 or PF that requires PCs and NPCs have identical access to abilities, et cetera, and even if there were there's no reason to continue with such a limiting paradigm.

In fact, there are obvious exceptions to the "no different rules" pseudo-rule. For example, only PCs get full hit points for their first Hit Die.

That's a fairly insignificant difference since it never amounts to more than 6 hit points. There's nothing that requires anything much in 3.5/PF save the DM wants it so, but the general trend in that game is that NPCs are built much the same as PCs. For some DMs/players, that's an attraction of 3.5/PF over 4e and certainly explains why someone would expect to have to give healing surges to NPCs if they give them to PCs. It's no mystery.

I'm sorry to seem obtuse, but what mystery are you referring to.

I wasn't asking why someone would want to stat NPC's the same as PC's, as I think your post implied...especially since that wasn't the statement I was responding to.

I was asking why they can't...which was the statement.

I don't understand what you're trying to communicate with this...

:erm:

Because your original response to the point was "Why?" So I answered that question.

Except you didn't answer the question: "Why can't you...".

You gave an opinion as to why one shouldn't.

Not the same thing.

:erm:

edit: And the question was actually for Scott DeWar (the reason why it was quoted:erm:). He hasn't answered the question either.

It's an RPG. There is no reason why you can't. The way to answer the question is to explain why someone feels the way they do about the implications of giving healing surges to PCs.

You are right...no one did.

But I still will not use it.:)
You know, I went back and re-read everything, and realized nobody said can't.:erm:

I'm really not sure where I got it from. Must have been reading too much into things.
