D&D General Are you content with what you have in DnD regarding physical/digital material?

Do you want/need more stuff or are you content?

I also feel that I'm being encouraged to use more stuff. Like miniatures and terrain. Customized miniatures, dice towers, fancy dice (...ooh so fancy), and screens. Dice holders, coasters, crazy dice rolling mechanisms, and ooh so many games! I can't believe it! How can there be so many games!? Are they people who really play these games regularly?

The game with the second most number of tables at DunDraCon this year, below Dungeons and Dragons, was Year Zero. I never heard of that before.

I'm fine. I still have all my 3E and 4E books, countless Dragon mags (both physical and online), and so many websites bookmarked and 3PP products purchased that if there's anything I could possibly need to introduce into any 5E24 game of mine, I can just grab it and make a few adjustments to add it to my 5E24 game.

Do I feel like I need to add Skill Challenges to my game? I don't need to wait for WotC to write it up and put it in a 5E24 book, I can just just adapt the 4E version myself. Do I feel like Bastions are not enough for stronghold rules? I'll just pull out Strongholds and Followers. Do I need a forest adventure? I have so many of them at hand I'll just grab one and make a few tweaks to make it useful for 5E24. Does a player wish to play a Warlord in an upcoming game? I have LaserLlama's version downloaded and ready to be used as necessary. Whatever I could possibly need for my game... I either already have or can find a version of it online and adapt.

That being said... I also have no issue buying one of the new books WotC produces if it seems cool. I have no pressure to do so, I have no concern if it's a book I do not need or care for, and as I do not buy everything under the sun each month I have plenty of saved petty cash on hand to get it should I desire to. So it's purely whether I think it'd be fun to have and read.

Good LORD I would love more actual player-facing content.
Yeah this.

  • More origin feat
  • "Make your own origin"
  • Some more half feats (ehich dont scale horrible bad like charger)
  • Possibly alternative class features (like in 5e for ranger)
  • An actual simple caster
  • A complex martial which does not use basic attacks.
  • At lesst one unique class with its own subsystem not just complexity in spells.

I said "need more maps" because the one thing I am always adding to my toolbox are maps for specific encounters when running on Fantasy Grounds. If I am running in person I usually just use dry erase TacTiles and wing it, but on the VTT I like having a pretty map. Usually I head over to r/battlemaps in the moment and find something appropriate. But sometimes if I am planning a big set piece or exploration zone, I will pre-buy a map directly from the FG store or DTRPG.

I simultaneously have way too much, am completely content with how much I have, and yet always need more

I came here to say exactly the same thing. I already need to reorganize my shleves to fit everything and I have more stuff than I'll ever play, but I'm still considering popping into my FLGS today to see if anything catches my eye.

Edit: It's worth noting that there is nothing out now OR on the docket that I'm looking to pick up. The only D&D product on my "to buy" buget are novels (mostly because my daughter is enjoying them and we can chat about them), and the only TTRPG product is Hands of the White Wizard for One Ring.

I...I don't know how to vote! :D (ETA: It would be novels if that were an option).

Honestly, I feel so backlogged on stuff I want to play or check out that I’m pretty good with where things are at. I don’t exclusively play D&D, and actually haven’t played it for about a year but I still buy WotC products and keep up with core books. What I haven’t done is buy a lot of the highly regarded 3PP stuff that’s come out.

So yeah, I’m content right now.
