Are You Getting Enough Sleep?

No. I work nights and between noise in the apartment above me, noise outside my apartment building, the phone ringing, and my cat, it's rare that I can get a solid block of sleep. It also doesn't help that when I get my daughters overnight I have to adjust my schedule so I'm not sleeping the whole time they are awake. It's hard switching from days to nights every week. I don't get enough sleep and I can feel it.

Usually not. I'm a bit of a night owl by nature (this post is a good illustration) but I often have to get up with my daughter to get her to preschool. So I miss out on getting as much sleep as I probably should. But it's nothing that massive amounts of caffeine can't conquer.

The one thing that always gets me though is my 7:00 PM lull. I'm always incredibly sleepy at that time and it's my wife's fault. Back a few years ago, when our daughter was first born, I'd help get her all ready for bed. Then I'd lie down on the couch for a few minutes while my wife rocked her to sleep and sang to her. My wife's singing puts me to sleep instantly. After a couple years of that I was completely conditioned to be tired at that time of day. So now I almost always try to sneak in a 10-15 minute nap while my wife reads her part of the bedtime books.

That is some high quality sleep right there.

Not really. I've had problems with insomnia since I was around 10 - that's 23 years of poor sleep now. My main problem is actually falling asleep. I have a hellish time falling asleep before I'm completely exhausted (mentally and physically) due to chronic depression symptoms. Once I do, I can sleep like a log (nightmares can be a problem but I normally don't wake up from them) but when I typically fall asleep around 2-4am and get up before 7pm for work, well, let's just say that caffeine is my friend.

Hmm... 4:08am. Fatigue is finally setting in. sigh

Really depends on the week for me, this morning I feel pretty rested, but I went to bed early last night. Other weeks depends on what time IronPup gets up and what time I went to bed the night before. There isn't really a snooze button for IronPup!

Nope: baby, long commute, house/yard work, cat that wakes me up several times a night, and a decision to trade an extra half-hour of sleep for exercise 4x/week. But it's all good.

No-- I've been working from around noon until 11p/ midnight or so-- then when i get home I'm wide awake until 2:00a or 3:00a-- then I wake up around 7:00a and drift in and out until I finally get up to get a shower, get to work and start all over again...

Occasionally I have to get to work by 8:00a-- but still have to work until midnight...

Today I'll work until 1:00a or 2:00a-- and have to be back at 8:00a tomorrow, to work until 11:00p...

This has been going on for a few weeks-- November 22nd will be my first day off since October 2nd...

So no, I'm not really getting enough sleep lately... nor eating well, cleaning the house, doing the laundry, having any fun, or dating...

Nope, and im going to blame it on classes. Not that im studying that much for them, just that they're there (final *real* semester before transfering to uc davis or berkeley) and its stressin me out. Once break comes around, i plan on sleeping a good 16-18 hrs a day :D lol
