Kai,

Your poll is too binary. There is should be some sort of middle ground for those of us who don't think that this was much of a problem either way.
Sorry, but I find middle-ground options to be copouts. The answer to a yes or no question, should, IMO, be "yes" or "no."

By that logic no mid-high level characters should ever exist. They routinely do much more extraordinary things than a simple double damage with a sword.

1. That is not at all what I meant; but I do think that extrodinary things should be unusual, special events - if it happens every five seconds, its normal, not extrordinary.

2. If you didn't want other people's opinions (ie you only wanted to hear from people who agree with you) why did you post a poll?

edit: I'm incapable of spelling properly.....

I voted no, but I don't think it will have THAT much of an impact on the game in general.

If anything this gives the "Magic has been Nerfed" crowd something to say "Nah nah nee nah nah" about ;) :p

Well, there was never a way to get a keen spell, though the idea would be interesting...

Ernie - "I am an expert in the use of the long sword. I know exactly where to strike to disable my opponent the fastest & most efficiently"

Bert - "Hah. I'm just as good as you are with my magic sword Slicer. It's so sharp that it's as good as you ever are."

Ernie - "Well, if I was using slicer my superior skill combined with its incredible sharpness would be nearly unbeatable."

Bert - "Nope. That would be too much. So, this magically sharp sword is no better than your simple magic sword Ouch when in your hands."

Do you believe people who see the world in black and white are morally colorblind? :-p

Honestly, I think middle ground options are important - all things in moderation, and so on.

But, in my opinion, crit ranges should be a matter of skill more than the weapon involved. If no crit range started at 18-20, then I would disagree with this change.

You could make the same argument for a wizard to use his own save DCs and caster level when using a wand or scroll.

Seriously, what's the point of the mighty cleaving magical ability? Is it worthless just because it duplicates a feat?

Yup, I could but I won't (because I think it can make sense either way).

I also admit, I dislike magic items that duplicate non-stackable feats. Those that do should, IMO, usually give some sort of bonus to those with the feat (depending on the reason why the item is supposed to give the feat).

If one of your players rolled four natural 20's in a row, would you say, "actually that last one doesn't count, can't have these things becoming routine now..."

As characters advance in level, they get more efficient at taking out bad guys. They increase their efficiency by routinely doing things lesser characters can only do with luck, if at all. Powerful monsters don't have to be able to do everthing the PC's can, that's what evil NPC's are for. Instead they counter things like more frequent criticals by having gobs of HP, high AC's to reduce the likelihood of a confirmation, or flatout immunity to critical strikes.

If you can't handle someone countering your point, why post? Just cast your vote in the poll and leave the discussion for people who do.

No.

So do people who spend $1.99 on a phone-in poll to vote "Undecided."

The entire thread is for people to share their degrees of like/dislike for the change. The poll itself was intended to see the percentages of people who find the revision positive or negative.
