I'm ready for a good game to use for short campaigns between Pathfinder arcs. The 5e Starter Set might do that, but it's up against Shadowrun, Numenera, Call of Cthulhu, whatever indie stuff comes out at GenCon, and just sticking with Pathfinder all the time.

Barring some major shakeup in our group, I expect we'll stick with Pathfinder at least until Paizo replaces it.

Cheers!

I'm ready because I hate the idea of 4e being the official D&D. So switching is a good thing. On the other hand, I could play anything pre-4e though I'd want to OSR some of the old stuff first. (d20 ascending etc...). Playstyle wise though I'm a 1e guy. I just want 3e mechanics and 1e deadliness and adventure playstyle.

I voted yes.

Astonishing Swordsmen & Sorcerers of Hyperborea looks like a huge improvement compared to Pathfinder. This could be the version of D&D I've always been looking for. And for 7€ it's a steal.

Still involved in these campaigns:

  • Running a weekly 5th-level 4e FR Neverwinter campaign that should go to high paragon levels.
  • Running a bimonthly 4th-level 4e FR Sundering campaign that will run at least to the end of the Sundering modules.
  • Will return to running a 4e Dark Sun campaign that went on hold to start up the Sundering campaign.
  • Running a highly hacked-up 4e Fallout: New Vegas campaign that's been going monthly for about 2 years now.
  • Playing in a 4e campaign set in FR's Amn, which is on hold currently as I alternate DMing responsibility with the DM.

We don't run stock 4e, but have houseruled quite a few rituals and feats and use most of the Dragon Magazine content (rest in peace).

These campaigns probably have 2-4 years left in them. We might take a look at 5e after that. I think it was almost a year after 4e launched that we switched over from 3e (epic-level DM prep was becoming a nightmare for me). We're not exactly bandwagon-jumpers, and never change editions mid-campaign. 4e still has plenty of fun left in it for us, and I have 3 or 4 character concepts I want to run.

I'm ready for a 4.5e, or something new, interesting, and elegant.

5e definitely isn't the former, and probably won't be the latter. So for now I'm ready for more 4e! Maybe I'll be ready for 6e...

Right now I am quite content with 3.5 games I am playing. If DnD Next manages to adress some issues I have with 3.5 then I will happily embrace it. However, having seen and little played the playtest, I am not very sure if 5e will be for me. It depends with the modularity feature they advertise and with the support of my gaming style which in playtest wasn't supported.

I'm ready for a new edition. I was sort of disappointed by 4th edition. Likewise, I didn't like the way Pathfinder took 3/3.5e. I liked what I saw from the play test materials, so I would say that I'm ready.

I'm ready for an edition they will support. 3e, 4e, 5e, just pick a damn edition and start making material for it. Mike Mearls and co needs to stop having D&D ADD. It's always like they are saying "Hey look at this new thing!" Then running over to a new rule set or tweak on the rule set and saying HEY LOOK AT THIS, NO WAIT LOOK HERE! NO WAIT LOOK HERE!. Etc etc etc. Just pick an edition for the love of god. And before the people say "You can play the old stuff you like" my retort is that I want an edition that is supported with new things at a consistent pace, that's what I look for in a company made roleplaying game.

I voted yes, with some hesitation. I have a very casual group, we play about once a month, and we play 3.5e. We've played 3.5 since its inception, and I personally am ready for a different ruleset, but that does not reflect the desires of my group. Everyone is very content with 3.5, though once in while I threaten that "the next campaign will be AD&D."

I've felt a pretty consistent 5e vibe from them since mid-2012. Could just be me.
