Are you ready for some Football (Americano)!

Don't get me started on TEs. You know how I listed the last five years of my performance in my Big Money* Fantasy Football League? Well, there's a reason I didn't do six.

Six years ago, I had a harebrained scheme. I was going to corner .... the TE market. It worked as well for me as it did the Hunt Brothers.

Yeah, I'm going deep on references today.

Anyway, I learned my lesson. Don't eff with Tight Ends. Either draft a Tier 1 TE, or if they get taken don't bother worrying about it and take what you get. And never draft two- just roster shift when you need to because of byes or injuries. Obviously, if you think that there might be a TE ready to blow up, grab 'em off the waiver wire during the season (I rode Likely to some victories when I snagged him late in '23 at an opportune time), but basically unless you can grab a top TE early, treat the position like a kicker.

Also? If you really hate yourself, take Kyle Pitts. And if you don't, laugh at the person who took them. I actually had him his first year for value, and you think it would have been a good experience. I can assure you- it was not. He might have been the rookie TE with 1000 yards, but somehow he managed to get 1000 yards, as a TE, and only ONE TD. How is that even possible? I couldn't even enjoy the points he did give me, because I was always like, "How are you possibly doing this?" Luckily, the pain of that caused me to avoid the pain of ever drafting him again.

*For some values of "Big Money." As a non-gambler, I view "loser has to pay for a nice venue and food and drinks" and "entry fee of $300" as Big Money. One of the players in the league is in another league that he calls his "Big Money League," and ... um ... yeah, that's definitely more-ish.

Don't get me wrong. I love Josh Downs. I've had him ... at least twice (maybe I've picked him up a few other times) and I know his talent! I love him as a player, and if he's available at the end of our draft, I might get him again. But ... c'mon. How can you possibly build an offense with deep threats, and draft a rookie QB with a cannon ... and then screw up your rookie QB, not give him enough reps, and finally bench him for the desiccated corpse of Danny Dimes?

I'd tell you to feel bad for the Colts fans, but you're a Vikings fan, right?

I'm sure you're dealing with your own trauma. Some of it may have even involved Danny Dimes.
Oh I’m from skol country but know better than to have expectations. Vikes noticeably absent from my team this year.

Drafted Cam Ward at 2.05 and like within five minutes I was getting trade offers for him, lol.

Good news- Cam Ward could be good.

Better news- I think that he has a good WR option with Calvin Ridley.

Great news- Reports out of training camp are that Cam Ward has "it." I'm not entirely sure what "it" is, but "it" is the fundamental prerequisite for being a great QB (like, um, Intelligence for a 1e MU, or a 17 Charisma for Lawful Stupid Paladin). Admittedly, reports out of training camp are 98% BS* but this has the feel of truth to it. Seems like Cam doesn't just have first round talent, he might also have ... "it."

Terrible news- He's a long-term project in fantasy (IMO). Because ... Titans. I am having trouble believing that coaching staff will maximize his potential. I really like Cam long-term (keeper!) but given he isn't a top-tier running QB, he's a rookie, and .... Titans, I think he's more of a stash for value than a play this year.

If there's a bidding war, I'd sell high. But that's me. Sometimes it's better to have a player you're just rooting for!

*Everyone is in their "best shape ever" even when the eye test tells you that they've been living on Ho Hos and Carl's Jr in the offseason while binging Netflix.
The new coordinator has "reinvigorated the scheme" even when you see the players not knowing where to go on the field and running into each other.
Your favorite team is "going to surprise some people" "because we are all 0-0." Sorry, Cleveland, but sadness isn't a surprise and 0-0 is the closest you'll get to a winning record.
The hyped rookie "shows great potential." Don't you know it! It's a shame that he isn't showing some great actual.

Right now my RB room is Tony Pollard, J.K. Dobbins, Javonte Williams, Kaleb Johnson; I'd be willing to part with him for an mid-tier RB1 at this point. The main guy fishing from him has Hall, Tracy, and Aaron Jones; I'd take the first two even up and Jones packaged with one of his three third rounds picks (we only have three rounds in our rookie draft). His QB1 is Aaron Rodgers so he might be desperate enough to overpay for him

Cam Ward update: he wouldn't budge on RBs so I ended up trading him for 2nd round pick in 2026 and 3.09 in our current draft (to go with my 3.05). This 2nd round replaces the one I traded for J.K. Dobbins earlier in the summer, so ultimately I ended up trading Cam Ward for J.K. Dobbins and a late 3rd rounder, which my trade calculator is telling me is a fair deal, and I'm higher on Dobbins than most

I’m hoping on Dobbins too!
