Hi Everyone,

As we all know, the next issue of Dragon will be the first official 3.5 release of the magazine. Last issue detailed some of the class and ability changes for Rangers, Barbarians and Fighters. I was wondering how many of you out there are incorporating these rules into your current games, or if you are waiting until the core books come out before making any changes.

We are changing our ranger's hit dice to d8 and incorporating the new ability progression that was detailed in the magazine, for instance.

Do you think that a little-by-little approach to the new rules will make a transition to 3.5. easier, or are you opting for a complete rules switch once the official release is out?

Essentially, yes.

I'm keeping a running document on our campaign website that collects changes as their announced or confirmed (with a few "likely but unconfirmed" ones). When th ebooks come out, I'll offer an amnesty for anyone who wants to rebuild a character with 3.5 feats -- but if they want to keep running a 3.0 character that's fine.

Olgar, would you mind posting the link to your site? I'd love to see that list as I've only been getting my 3.5 info from Dragon. Is the list complete, and what sources do you draw from?

no. as Ed Stark has said on numerous occasions, these little changes that have been doled out to us may not necessarily be the final versions.

besides, i don't want to just use a fraction of the changes that 3.5 is going to make; i'd rather wait and do it all at once. seems like it would be more balanced and fair that way.

(for example, it seems rangers and barbarians are getting a power-up. if other classes are also getting power-ups (and it seems that way) it wouldn't be fair to let a ranger or barbarian PC get the bennies now when everyone else is stuck with their 3.0 characters.)

The site's closed except to players in the campaign; I'll post the text in another thread (hopefully no one kills me; it's long.).

There are some things I've left off the list -- new monster stats, for instance (my players don't need those, and most haven't been too complete). If I haven't been able to get a good clear explanation, I've left some detail out (like the new polymorph spells). A few items are marked as "likely but unconfirmed" -- generally based on info from Dungeon that may or may not be correct, or extrapolation from Urban Arcana -- there's probably a few errors. It's about as complete as I can make it so far, using these sources:

Dragon Mag releases
WOTC website releases
Ed Stark quotes (mortality radio, WOTC boards)
Andy Collins releases (Andy Collins' boards)
Dungeon 3.5-compatible adventures
Savage Species/Fiend Folio/Unapproachable East/Races of Faerun

Edit: D&D 3.5 Revisions

I'm not...

as well as the issue that some people have already expressed with regard to the headaches caused during the 2E-3E crossover, I think there are elements of balance that can only be fully appreciated with the full rule set...

so I'll wait...

I'm sure the 3.5 books will eventually make it to Australia...

;)
