Armor slot for magic items

If your dm let's you give clothes and enhancement bonus to AC (thus rendering them armor, I guess) then you can wear that. Otherwise, you won't be using that slot.
 

If you are using your armor slot, then you would count as wearing armor for the purposes of monk abilities.

Even if it's a silk shirt +1.

However, silk shirts +1 would use the "vest, vestment or shirt" slot.

Unless it was created using Magic Vestment.

But if it's using the shirt slot, then it's not using the armor slot, which you'll note was the condition I gave for the monk losing his abilities.
