Armor protects your wounds points. So, it's not useless. Wound damage is pretty severe, be happy it protects that. Also, wound damage is actualy physical damage, Vitality is more like being tired. Armor doesn't keep one from getting tired, so it really makes sense with the way things are defined. Also, most NPCs have no vitaly, so all damage is wound damge to them. Armor is good for NPCs.

I wouldn't call it useless if it is the only one protecting your most valuable stat, Wound Point. If you can survive a battle without getting one critical hit nor lose all your VP and start taking damage to WP, then that's great. But armor is counted when it is truly needed.
