Arrrgh! Only ONE page

So, I have been working on my entry for the WotC setting contest and DAMN! condensing a setting that I have hundreds of pages on and have run so many campaigns in (or at least a bastardized version of it) down to it essence in one measly page is a lot firggin' harder than I thought it would be!

I could easily write the ten pages of the next step, and still have space problems. . .

Oh well, just venting. . . back to work. . .

Pretend that you are writing the blurb printed on the back of a boxed set and you want WOTC, your customer, to buy it.

Remember it has to be enticing enough to make them want to buy the product but vague enough to compel them to open the box for the answers. And of course you are limited to one page or in this case the back of the box.

Playing along the same lines, market research as show that the customer, WOTC, will show interest in blurbs that address the six key concepts.

Well... that is the way I am thinking of it.

In the end this is what will seperate the winning entries from all the others, something that has it all, yet only takes a single page. This is precisely why many people (myself included) will tell you that writing a good short story is harder than writing a novel.

Greetings!

So true, Nemmerle, so true! I have the same lamentation!:)

Carry on, though, and best wishes to you Nemmerle.

Semper Fidelis,

SHARK

I don't know if a short story is harder ~ but it is definitely no room to bury the tale's short-comings. . .

I figure I will write as many pages as come out and then do what I am best at. . . editing. . just cut, cut, cut. . . condense, cut, condense and then cut some more.

It is hard to convey the subtleties of the "conflicts" that I would like in just a paragraph. . . the subleties of one? Yes. Of all the organizations and their interplay? No. I guess I will just have to say they exist and hope they beleive me ;)

Shark, no offense, but I've stolen so much of your world already from these boards that I won't pay for it. Heh, kidding. If you are entering, and can condense your myriad of information into a page, I'd consider you a front-runner. Your world cerrtainly has depth and is well thought out. Best of luck to all, and no, I'm not in the habit of kissing SHARK's ass.
